Loyalty. It’s one of the most fitting words to describe our four-legged companions, don’t you think?
If you’ve ever had a dog, you know exactly what that means. They’re not just adorable, lively, and fun to be around. If you’re their human, they’ll stick with you through anything, no questions asked.
But here’s what’s even more incredible: dogs aren’t just devoted to their people. They’re just as loyal to their fellow pups and the siblings they share their space with… their “partners in crime who nap in the same dog bed.”
Not long ago, a Pittie named Diamond showed what it meant to be a true companion when she was discovered on a dangerous Missouri highway guarding her injured sister, Hope. Their rescue story quickly captured hearts all over the internet.
Refused To Leave Her Injured Sister’s Side

When the team at Stray Rescue of St. Louis saw a post in a local Facebook group about a dog that had been hurt, they jumped into action right away.
It turned out that the pup, named Hope, had likely been hit by a car and was lying wounded along a dangerous highway. But she wasn’t by herself.
“We just picked up two dogs – one lying on Hwy 70 at the Bircher exit after being struck, and her friend who won’t leave her side… They appear to be in good shape, so we’re sure someone loves them and is looking for them,” the Missouri rescue wrote in a Facebook post.

A gray and white Pittie named Diamond stood beside her, refusing to leave Hope’s side.
What really struck the rescuers was how well both dogs seemed to be doing, aside from the incident. They looked healthy, were well-fed, their fur was shiny, and they were clearly at ease around humans, all signs pointing to the fact that they had a home.

Once they were brought back to the rescue center, the team scanned both pups for microchips. Unfortunately, the contact information listed was no longer valid.
As Hope was examined further, the vet team was relieved to find her condition wasn’t as bad as they feared. All she needed was a few stitches in her leg.

The rescuers remained hopeful and continued searching for the dogs’ family through social media. Eventually, someone reached out to them.
It turned out that Hope and Diamond’s family had been trying to find them, and now, they finally knew where the dogs had ended up.
Sweet Reunion At The Rescue Center

Later that day, the dogs’ family arrived at the Stray Rescue of St. Louis to see their pups again. According to the owners, the two had managed to get out of the house and were already more than a mile away when they were found.
“They rushed here the moment we got in contact with them, they’ve been worried sick. They took their girl home and will be back later today for their other girl,” the rescue concluded in an update post.
Diamond, the loyal sister who stayed with Hope through it all, was taken home first. Since Hope still needed a bit more recovery time, the family planned to come back for her that evening.
This touching rescue serves as an important reminder to double-check your pet’s microchip info and it’s also a beautiful example of a dog’s loyalty. Stay safe, girls, and enjoy your life back home.
