Washington Dog Owner Surprised By His Pup’s Unusual Reaction To Going For A Walk

We all know dogs love their walks. Honestly, have you ever met a dog that didn’t want to go out for a long stroll in the park?

I haven’t. My own dog always enjoyed running and walking. It was one of his favorite parts of the day, especially when he could run laps around the neighborhood.

Still, the idea that a dog wouldn’t want to go for a walk is almost unheard of. Well… in this case, I wouldn’t be so sure.

When this owner from Washington planned to take his Golden Retriever for a walk, he noticed something strange about the dog’s behavior.

This might sound familiar. Whenever Brittany Haffner and Mike Karas try to take their dog Bruce out for a walk, they notice something odd.

It seems like Bruce doesn’t actually want to go for a walk. Then his owners realized Bruce remembers one day from five years ago that changed how he feels about walks.

Apparently, his dad tricked him into going for a walk, but it turned out to be a seven-mile run. Since then, Bruce has been hesitant about going for walks.

Now, every time Bruce sees a leash, he assumes his dad is taking him for a long run instead of a calm stroll.

It took some time, but his owners finally convinced Bruce they were just going for a walk.

Now, when they go out, Bruce no longer hesitates, and his owners wouldn’t dream of trying a long run again.

The Washington couple found Bruce’s hesitation funny, so they recorded it and and posted it on TikTok.

Many people were surprised by Bruce’s reaction because they’d never seen a dog act like that before.

One person commented: “Yeah my dogs would never. I once had to carry my NEARLY FULL GROWN golden retriever home for 15 minutes when I was 14 because he wouldn’t go.

Bruce is definitely an exception. It still surprises me that he doesn’t like running, or maybe it’s just because it was a seven-mile run.

Another person said: “Also how I’d react if I got tricked into going on a 7 mile hike 5 years ago.

You can really understand Bruce’s side here. Honestly, I’d probably feel the same if someone tricked me into going on a long run.

Lastly, somebody commented: “I went hiking with my golden ONCE… My back hurt for weeks after carrying her and my heavy backpack down the trail again because she just straight up REFUSED to walk back.

Alright… that’s quite an interesting tale. Maybe it’s related to the breed, though I’m not certain. Either way, it’s always funny to read people’s own stories about their dogs.

This shows how unique dogs are. Maybe it’s the breed, maybe not. Either way, these stories remind us how simple and fun life with dogs can be, even when unexpected. Bruce is a great example.
