Man Curious About His Dog’s Breed Shocked After DNA Test Reveals Unexpected Results

As a proud dog owner who found their beloved furry soulmate through a rescue group, have you ever been curious to discover more about their heritage?

I mean, like, really curious?

I know that sometimes, no matter how hard you try to gather information, there just isn’t enough. Or, perhaps you decide to go with the flow and leave it all behind as you embark on a new chapter with your pet.

Max Matthai, a man living in Baltimore, Maryland, definitely falls into the second group! He shared a lifetime of happiness with his dog, Louie, never wondering about his ancestry – until one day, he had a good reason to do a little research!

Louie Is Truly One Of A Kind

From the moment he saw the picture of Louie in a Texas rescue group, Max immediately knew he had to adopt him. There was just something special about this unusual-looking boi and Max loved it.

The two formed an unbreakable bond over nearly two years, during which Louie grew to a whopping 70 pounds

Although unsure about his breed, Max had always thought Louie might have some Retriever or Collie in him. His beautiful shiny coat and the sweetest smile gave him an innocent vibe that led this Maryland man to believe so.

On top of everything, Louie was crazy about going to the park, taking hikes, and swimming – more Retriever traits!

Still, whenever he was asked about his breed or someone complimented his dog’s stunning, unusual looks, Max became more curious. Then, he started posting Louie’s photos online and people began inquiring about the dog’s heritage even more, which only fueled his curiosity.

After a while, Max decided to subject Louie to a pet DNA test and put the mystery to an end once and for all. The results, however, were far from what he expected!

The moment the DNA test revealed Louie’s original breed was truly shocking for Max! As it turned out, he did not have any Retriever in him or Collie, for that matter.

On the contrary, the test showed Louie was born to a purebred German Shepherd mom, making him about 30 percent Shepherd. He also had 20 percent Great Pyrenees in him and a mix of other breeds.

Boy, that was unexpected!

“My beautiful boy Louie! He’s a German Shepherd/Great Pyrenees mix,” Max wrote on Reddit.

When Max finally revealed his original breed on Reddit, people nationwide flooded the comment section.

“I’ve got one of those. All the athleticism and energy of a Shepherd with the resource guarding and barking of a Pyr,” one user wrote.

“Louie is ultra ultra nice and sweet, what a baby he is,” another added.

Although a working breed and not a lap dog, nothing really changed in Louie’s life except that he can now fully embrace his magnificent identity!

Even though he’s a mixed breed, Louie is a hundred percent beloved boi by his family. He enjoys life to the fullest, cherishing every adventure in his pawfect home!
