I never understood the bias some people hold against certain dog breeds. Often, a single misleading video of a provoked dog convinces many that the breed itself is dangerous.
That belief is false. No breed is inherently more aggressive than another.
It all depends on the owners and how they raise their dogs. Some may react aggressively if provoked, while others remain calm. Their looks have nothing to do with it.
One of the clearest examples of this unfairness is a pit bull named Rocky, who spent a long time in McDonough Rescue shelter in California because nobody showed interest in adopting him.
A Gentle Soul Facing The Unthinkable
It is heartbreaking that a pup as sweet as Rocky struggled to find a permanent home, but that was the harsh truth.
One of the rescuers, Kelsey, tried to help him get adopted, but things weren’t going well. Other rescuers told her he would soon be red-listed.
That meant Rocky would be placed on the euthanasia list if no family came forward. This was crushing because he did not deserve such a fate.
To cheer him up, Kelsey took Rocky outside for a day of play, hoping to lift his spirits.
During that time, she noticed just how underweight and malnourished he was. Although shelter staff worked hard to help him gain weight, progress was slow.
Eventually, Kelsey and the other rescuers in California found a foster home for Rocky, which was a step in the right direction.
At least it gave him a fighting chance. Kelsey visited him often and noticed his behavior beginning to change.
A Glimmer Of Hope Changes Everything
Though still nervous and clearly unaccustomed to living in a home, Rocky was slowly making progress.
Day by day, the improvement was obvious, and it brought hope. Seeing him happy raised his chances of finding a permanent family.
Time passed, and Rocky settled into his foster home. Then, something unexpected happened.
Kelsey received word from Rocky’s foster mom that she had found a perfect adopter. This was the best news possible.
Rocky soon met his new dad, Liam, and from the very first moment, it was clear they would be inseparable.
He even claimed his favorite spot in the home right away, showing how quickly he felt comfortable with Liam.
Though things looked grim at the start, Rocky’s rescuers never gave up. Their efforts paid off, and now Rocky is living the life he deserves.
