Pup Left In High-Euthanasia Texas Shelter Rejoices After Meeting Someone Who Changed His Life

Logan had always been a devoted family dog, first to his furry pack, and later to the forever family who welcomed him into their lives.

He was discovered as a stray in Texas, staying loyally by the side of his pregnant mate. When she gave birth, Logan remained with her and the six puppies, unwilling to leave their side.

A rescue group soon arrived and took in the mother and her litter. Heartbreakingly, they had no interest in Logan and chose to leave him behind, scheduled to be euthanized.

Logan’s life was set to end almost immediately, but fate stepped in at the last possible moment.

Saving Logan’s Life

At the high-kill shelter in Texas, Logan sat on borrowed time. Yet one shelter worker noticed something special in him and twice managed to postpone his euthanasia date.

That brief delay turned out to be his saving grace. It was enough time to arrange transport to a Colorado rescue. Not long after, a kindhearted couple met him and decided he was theirs.

“We went to meet him and I remember walking away, like, so we just met our dog. He was skinny, scared, timid, and all those things,” Alison Dickson, Logan’s mom, told GeoBeats Animals.

In his first days at his new home, Logan was quiet and cautious, almost as if he feared any mistake might cost him the security he had just found.

His new parents, lovers of the outdoors, introduced him to the Colorado trails. Those first hikes became a turning point in Logan’s journey.

With every outing, his confidence grew. He began to understand that this was his true forever family, and they weren’t going to abandon him.

“He is such a great athlete. He knows when my hiking bag comes out and he just gets excited,” Alison said.

Protector Of The Family

Before long, Logan’s family expanded when they rescued another dog, Phoenix, along with two cats, Milo and Lucy.

“Phoenix is the snuggliest little ball of sunshine that has no idea that she’s a rescue at all,” Alison added.

The group blended beautifully… Logan bonded instantly with Phoenix and treated the cats gently, as if he had known them all along.

Since Alison works from home while her husband often travels for work, Logan naturally stepped into the role of guardian whenever his dad was away.

“He loves him so much. It’s almost like Logan thinks he works for my husband. When my husband is traveling, Logan will be sleeping on the side of the couch that faces the door. He’s going to be a little bit more aware of everything, and a lot more watchful when my husband is not there,” Alison said.

To Alison, Logan is like Gandalf from Lord of the Rings, a wise and steady protector with a deeply emotional side.

Now, Logan spends his days hiking, sniffing, and experiencing everything he once never could.

“From a stray on the streets of Texas, to the EUTHANASIA list in a shelter (💔!!), to the wonderful people and rescue that got him to us…my world is a tremendously better place for having Logan in it,” Alison wrote in an Instagram post
