During a casual walk through her neighborhood in St. Louis, Missouri, a woman spotted something that made her stop in her tracks.
A tiny pup had been left tied to a stop sign with no owner in sight.
With no one around who seemed connected to him, she approached slowly, trying to understand what had happened.
Discovering A Belly Rub Lover

When she crouched beside him, the pup lifted his leg toward her. Acting on instinct, she gave him a gentle belly rub, and he reacted with absolute delight.
As she continued petting him, she contacted Stray Rescue of St. Louis (SRSL), Missouri, for help.
Donna Lochmann, SRSL’s chief life saving officer, took the call and headed out to meet the pup.

When Donna arrived, she found a heartwarming scene. The little dog, soon to be named Campbell, was surrounded by several kind women who had gathered to comfort him.
Campbell soaked in every second of the attention.
Even though he had been untied, he showed no interest in getting to his feet.
“When I got up to him, he rolled over and stuck his leg up. I thought at first that there was something wrong with it, but he truly just wanted a belly rub,” said Donna.
Honoring his request, they continued showering him with affection.

Donna and her rescue partner spent time rubbing Campbell’s belly, hoping he would eventually stand and follow them to the car.
But Campbell was far too content to budge.
In the end, Donna gently scooped him into her arms and carried him to the vehicle.
Though still nervous about everything happening, Campbell clearly appreciated every bit of the warmth and kindness he received.
Adjusting To Safe Haven Living
At SRSL, Campbell received a full medical exam to ensure he was healthy and ready for the next stage of his life.
His calm and sweet personality convinced the team that he would thrive in a loving home that could give him the affection he adored.

While waiting for that perfect family, Campbell is staying in foster care.
He enjoys a soft bed, lots of cuddles, and more belly rubs than he ever imagined, helping him feel secure and valued each day.
A Kind Message
If someone can no longer care for their dog, leaving them tied outside is never the answer.
Bringing them to a shelter offers them a real chance at being adopted by a family who will cherish them.
