Overjoyed Dog Stays In Foster Home For A Month, Heartbroken To Return To The Shelter

Every stray or shelter dog dreams of finding their forever home and living a peaceful life with their favorite human.

However, that is not the reality for most of them. The sad truth is that a lot of strays or shelter dogs never find a new family or else they spend most of their life in the shelter.

Sadly, they have to deal with such a cruel reality, but the world is not always a fair place. If they are lucky, they might get rescued, but even that doesn’t guarantee that they will find a home.

What happened to this sweet pup was also pretty depressing. Even though it looked like things were taking a turn for the better in her life, everything came crashing down in an instant.

Brandy’s Depressing Story

When Brandy was first taken to a shelter in Texas, the rescuers knew that they would have to euthanize her if she didn’t find a home soon.

When her situation started to seem dire, the rescuers at Pawportunities Animal Rescue, in Missouri, used this opportunity to give her a new chance.

They took her in and this was a brand-new beginning for her. She looked so happy to meet her new rescuers. She believed that these kind people would help her.

Shortly after she was taken in by the rescuers, they were able to secure her a foster home and she finally got to experience a normal life.

However, just as things were looking up, a big problem appeared. Brandy’s foster parents sent her back to the shelter in Missouri and this shattered her completely.

The rescuers were completely heartbroken by her reaction. She looked terrified to be back and her rescuers noticed that she was urinating out of fear.

They recorded a video of her and put it on TikTok to show how sad her situation was in hopes that someone would reach out and adopt her.

Everyone Was Heartbroken

After the video gained a lot of attention, many people went into the comments to share their reactions. Everyone felt heartbroken over her future prospects.

One person commented: “I fostered a dog who didn’t get along with one of my dogs. I called the shelter and they said to bring him back. When we pulled up he immediately started to shake and put his head down. I couldn’t do.

Some dogs who have spent a long time outside and on their own are just terrified of the prospect of ending up back where they started and we have to do what we can to help them.

Another person said: “I am bawling. This is so sad. Those who turned her in should have to take her back instead of walking out the door.

It’s sad to know that it didn’t work out with Brandy’s foster family, but hopefully, this short clip will raise enough awareness about her situation so somebody can adopt her.

Lastly, somebody commented: “I do think fostering is important, but also see the downside, and additional trauma it can cause when this happens. Hoping her and her siblings find their furever homes soon!

I agree with this sentiment. I am hopeful that Brandy will get the chance to live the life she always deserved. She is a sweet dog who wants nothing more than to be at her human’s side in a forever home.

Brandy came from a high kill shelter in Texas, along with her two siblings Bandit and Haylie. Terrified upon arrival, she quickly went into a foster home where she was beginning to blossom (see video links in comments). Unfortunately after a month in the home, the foster doesn’t think she’s a good fit and she was returned back to the shelter. This is no fault of Brandy or the foster. We are grateful Brandy was able to spend a month outside of the shelter. We wanted people to see what happens when a dog enters the shelter- regardless the reason. Something we deal with every day. It’s heartbreaking and gut wrenching. All we want to do is hold each of them and tell them it’s going to be ok. But we can’t promise them a time when someone will step up and be their hero. Brandy could really use a hero right now. (So could her sister Haylie.) A foster or adopter, one that understands the trauma she comes with. That can be patient and encouraging, loving and compassionate. Help build her self confidence. Earn her trust. Love her so much she forgets her turmoiled past. Can you help us find her hero?
