Dog In Final Stage Of Illness Spends 791 Days In Hawaii Rescue Until A Woman Shows Up

All Princess wished for behind closed kennel bars was to feel freedom. Yet, after a lifetime of struggle, all she received instead was the sight of her furry friends being adopted, while she remained behind.

It’s safe to say that this terminally ill Pittie mix from a Hawaii rescue was on the verge of shutting down completely.

That was until a kind woman stumbled upon Princess’ story. Then, in just a matter of days, everything changed!

Tasting Love And Freedom For The First Time

Most of Princess’ past before arriving at the Maui Humane Society remains unclear. She was found in a remote location, severely emaciated and with congestive heart failure.

During her stay at the shelter, Princess had been incredibly sweet. Yet, potential adopters didn’t quite see her that way. Like most senior Pitties, she was constantly overlooked by people coming to adopt dogs.

Over the next period, Princess lived in several different foster families. However, she never had success in finding a forever family.

Before long, this terminally ill dog became one of the longest residents at the Hawaii rescue.

“That’s over two years of watching other dogs come and go, hoping her turn might come too. She arrived at Maui Humane Society as a stray, thin and tired. Now 10 years old, she’s our longest resident, and time is catching up to her,” Cassondra, the rescue volunteer, wrote in the video.

That was until a woman named Ginger Cabais stumbled upon Princess’ video on social media. Ginger, who spent years helping dogs rehabilitate and rehome, and is now living in Hawaii, immediately rushed into action.

She applied to adopt this senior girl, eager to provide her with a hospice home.

Now, it was only a matter of logistics.

Thanks to a volunteer pilot, Bianca, who offered to fly Princess to the island of Oahu, and Cassondra, who accompanied the dog all the way to her new mom, she was safely transported to her new home.

It was a moment everyone hoped for all along. The pup and Ginger bonded right off the bat, as if Princess somehow knew this was the beginning of her new life chapter.

She’s The Princess Of Her New Home

Seeing this sweet girl finally in the arms of her new owner melted everyone’s hearts. Princess, a genuinely sweet Pittie granny, is now able to sleep in a comfy bed and soak in all the beauty instead of lying in the kennel.

Although not in her prime and already in her golden years, one thing is for sure: Princess’ last days will definitely be filled with love and comfort.

“It’s been a long road filled with love, healing, and hope. From the kind souls who rescued her over two years ago, to every foster family who opened their hearts and homes—we are so grateful. This is why we do what we do,” the Hawaii rescue concluded in the post.
