As someone who has never worked in animal rescue, I can only imagine how emotionally draining it must be to make decisions about euthanasia.
Rescuers often give everything they can to find homes for the animals in their care, but sometimes time runs out and there just aren’t enough adopters or fosters available.
Knowing that shelters face this heartbreaking reality on a regular basis is devastating. Still, many shelters try one last push, spreading the word in hopes that someone will step up before it’s too late.
That’s exactly what happened in CJ’s story. He was hours away from being euthanized—until a miracle changed everything.
CJ Gets A Second Chance

When Taylor Moskalski came across a post about a dog on the euthanasia list at an Oklahoma shelter, she felt compelled to do something.
Scrolling through dogs in desperate need had become a routine for her, and whenever possible, she tried to help.
The senior dog she initially inquired about had just been adopted—wonderful news—but the staff informed her that another young pup was still in danger. His name was CJ.

Only 10 months old, CJ had already been marked for euthanasia. Hearing that crushed Taylor. Without hesitation, she agreed to foster him, stepping in just hours before his scheduled time.
Once CJ settled into her home, it was as if the weight had lifted off his tiny shoulders. He quickly became more relaxed and even started showing his playful side. Taylor gave him a toy, and he lit up with joy, wagging his tail as if he couldn’t believe his luck.
A Pup Learning To Trust Again

But it wasn’t all easy. Taylor noticed that CJ flinched at sudden movements, a reaction that hinted at possible abuse in his past.
She couldn’t confirm it, but his behavior spoke volumes. The way he recoiled made her heart ache. No puppy deserves to grow up in fear.
Determined to show him kindness, Taylor focused on creating a safe space where he could rebuild trust. Slowly but surely, CJ began to feel more at ease.

His curiosity became the key to his progress. Even though everything seemed new and overwhelming, he wanted to explore, learn, and figure out the world around him.
At times he was still awkward, as if unsure how to navigate experiences most puppies take for granted, but with patience and love, Taylor believed he would continue to grow.
CJ’s story is a reminder of how quickly things can change for shelter animals. One moment, he was just another name on a list. The next, he was safe, cared for, and learning what it feels like to be loved.
Taylor hopes his resilience will eventually lead him to a forever family who understands him and gives him the life he deserves.
While we don’t yet know the ending to CJ’s story, there’s every reason to believe that this brave pup will find his happily ever after. After all, miracles do happen—and CJ is living proof.
