Senior Dog Found With Microchip, What Happened Next Left The California Shelter Stunned

Senior Dog Found With Microchip, What Happened Next Left The California Shelter Stunned

Welcoming a dog into our home is a big decision, as it means a lifelong commitment to be with our furry companion in sickness and in health.

Regrettably, not all dog owners think likewise, and they often abandon their senior dogs and leave them to fend for themselves.

Molly, a twelve-year-old dog, used to have a family and a home. She thought that she would stay there forever until she faced a sad reality. The dog found herself all alone on the streets and realized that she had been rejected.

Will anyone save Molly from the difficult life on the street?

A Heartbreaking Truth

When a Good Samaritan spotted Molly running around a busy street, they jumped to her aid. They collected the doggo and drove her to Long Beach Animal Care Services.

The staff soon found out that Molly had a microchip, and they immediately contacted her owners, thinking that they would be happy to reunite with her.

However, things didn’t go as the shelter staff had hoped for.

The original owners claimed that they parted ways with Molly eight years ago and gave her to one of their friends with whom they were no longer in contact.

And yet, they seemed to be excited to hear about Molly and promised that they would pick her up in the morning.

Molly waited at the shelter for two weeks, but her owners never came to collect her. The shelter called them multiple times and sent them emails, but to no avail.

As soon as Gina Castillo, the Rescuer Director of The Forgotten Dog Foundation in Santa Monica, heard that there was a senior dog at the shelter who had been rejected by her family, she decided to pull her out.

When it comes to Molly’s owners, Castillo is convinced that they never planned on picking her up from the shelter.

Castillo checked the database where owners post when they are looking for their missing dogs and learned that nobody had posted anything about Molly.

Safe At The Sanctuary

It was only after Castillo picked Molly up and brought her to the sanctuary that she realized that the doggo was in horrible condition. It was obvious that she had been neglected.

“We got her to our vet and found that she had a list of medical issues, including being sight impaired, a nasty ear infection, luxating patella on her back leg, rotten teeth and an oral fistula that needed repairing, and she has stage two kidney disease,” Forgotten Dog Foundation wrote in an Instagram post.

The senior dog had eleven teeth removed, and the vet team repaired the oral fistula, a hole in the nasal cavity which was formed from the infection in her mouth.

Molly’s treatment cost nearly $4,000. In order to manage her kidney issues, the doggo is on a special renal diet, which costs around $100 a month.

Her rescuers are glad to see Molly return to full health.

The senior dog won’t ever be put up for adoption. She is now one of the sanctuary dogs and will stay with Castillo, who takes care of the foundation’s dogs.

Castillo is delighted with Molly. She is an adorable dog who has a sassy personality. She settled into Castillo’s home perfectly.

She enjoys car rides, has the best manners, and goes everywhere with her caretaker.

Molly finally has all the love and care that she lacked all along. She will never be neglected and betrayed again.
