Kentucky Dog Found Tied In A Bush For Three Days Leaves Rescuers Heartbroken

It is heartbreaking to imagine how lost and confused abandoned dogs must feel once they realize the humans they trusted have turned away.

Sadly, many owners still discard their pets in careless and cruel ways, placing them in danger without a second thought.

One Kentucky dog endured exactly that pain when his owners tied him to a small tree and hid him in a dense bush.

For three long days, he waited and hoped someone would return, until the reality of his abandonment began to set in.

Local residents eventually noticed the dog, later named Dubya, tucked quietly inside the shrubbery.

When it became clear that no one had checked on him for three days, a concerned neighbor contacted Louisville Metro Animal Services  to report what was happening.

The caller initially warned that Dubya seemed aggressive when approached. When an officer arrived, she found something very different. The pup was friendly and eager to connect.

Dubya had been tethered with a short rope, and an empty pink food bowl sat beside him.

The officer carefully cut the rope and freed him at last.

As soon as he realized he was safe, the sweet dog’s tail began to wag. He looked up at his rescuer with a distinctive, cross-eyed expression that seemed to hold pure gratitude.

Dubya was transported to Metro Animal Services for an exam.

Despite several days alone in the bush, he was in better shape than anyone expected. Aside from bug bites, his overall health was good.

Staff estimated his age at around three years. He began treatment for entropion, a painful condition in which the eyelid rolls inward and causes excessive tearing.

Dubya did not have a microchip, and no one came forward to take responsibility for tying him up and walking away.

After the shelter posted Dubya’s story on Facebook, many people were relieved to know he was safe. Others were upset that it took three days before anyone reported him.

“We definitely do not recommend waiting [that long]. If you see a dog tied to something with no one around, we would recommend calling animal control. Even if the dog doesn’t seem in distress, things can change really quickly,” said Stephanie Jackson, public information officer at Metro Animal Services, in a statement to The Dodo.

Through it all, Dubya stayed cheerful and affectionate. His upbeat personality quickly won over staff and volunteers.

“He is very, very, very goofy and affectionate,” Jackson added.

His lively spirit and love of activity made it clear he would thrive in a fun and engaging home.

From Bush to Belonging

On June 13th, 2025, the Louisville shelter shared the best update possible on social media. Dubya had found his forever family.

His new dad wrote in the comments that Dubya was loving his new life and settling in beautifully.

This sweet boy finally has what he always deserved. From now on, his days will be filled with love, joy, and the security he was denied for far too long.
