Broken-Hearted Dog Found Sleeping On Dangerous California Railway Tracks, Hoping For A Chance

Every homeless pup longs for a family and a warm place to finally feel safe. Sadly, for countless strays, that dream seems out of reach.

One little Pomeranian, later named Marshmallow, had all but given up on happy endings. Focused only on surviving the streets, he wandered into one of the most dangerous places imaginable — the railway tracks of Los Angeles, California.

Unaware of the life-threatening risk, the fluffy stray made the tracks his makeshift home, curling up beneath an industrial trailer. Would anyone spot him in time to bring him to safety?

When rescuer and dog lover Rosario Ortiz came across the tiny pup, her heart sank. Seeing Marshmallow curled up in such a perilous spot was heartbreaking.

Ortiz quickly reached out to Suzette Hall, veteran rescuer and founder of Logan’s Legacy 29 in Irvine, California. Without hesitation, Hall rushed over to help.

By the time she arrived an hour later, Marshmallow was still asleep, oblivious to the danger around him.

Hall carefully set up a trap filled with tasty treats and hid nearby, hoping the pup would wander in without realizing.

When Marshmallow woke, his nose twitched at the smell of food. Slowly, he made his way toward the trap, curious and hungry.

But just as he was about to step inside, a passerby startled him. Startled, the frightened dog bolted down the train tracks.

Hall and Ortiz panicked, terrified he could be struck at any moment. Wasting no time, they jumped into their cars and followed him along the tracks, determined not to let him out of their sight.

Feeling Safe At Last

Eventually, Marshmallow ran into a fenced-off section near the tracks, giving the rescuers the perfect opportunity. They quickly set up baby gates, closing off his only exit, and carefully closed in.

At last, Ortiz managed to scoop him up into her arms. Relief washed over them both — the pup was safe.

At first, Marshmallow was disoriented and unsure of what was happening. But as Hall gently reassured him and carried him into her car, his demeanor shifted. He seemed to finally understand he was no longer in danger.

“The best part was [when] he knew he was safe, he could hardly keep his eyes open and laid all the way to [in the] back of the trap. He didn’t have to live on the railroad tracks or sleep hiding under that trailer ever again. He was rescued,” Hall wrote on Facebook.

Hall drove him straight to Camino Pet Hospital, where he received a full medical checkup and a soothing bath.

To everyone’s relief, Marshmallow was found to be in good health. Soon after, he moved into a foster home where he could finally rest in comfort.

Once settled, his true personality emerged. Far from the frightened stray, Marshmallow proved to be a gentle cuddle bug who adored affection.

“Marshmallow is the biggest cuddle bug ever. He is beyond happy to be saved. He just cuddles into your arms,” Hall told The Dodo.

Thanks to the dedication of kind rescuers, Marshmallow now knows love and safety. All that’s left is for him to find his forever family — and finally live the happy life he deserves.
