Adopted Dog Ends Up At Pennsylvania Shelter Again After Tragedy Strikes Family

For many shelter dogs, the hardest part is holding onto hope each day that someone kind will come and choose them.

Even in the best rescue facilities, life can still be lonely for pups longing for a family. But nothing compares to the joy of seeing a dog’s expression when they realize they finally have a forever home — it makes every day of waiting worthwhile.

That’s exactly what happened to Cake Batter. He found a wonderful owner and experienced pure happiness… until tragedy struck and changed everything.

Back At The Shelter

The day Cake Batter was adopted was one of the happiest of his life. He had finally found someone who would give him a loving home.

Although he adored the staff at the Pennsylvania SPCA, it was obvious that he longed for a family of his own.

Given his background, it’s no wonder he wanted nothing more than a normal, peaceful life. As a young pup, he had been forced into dog fighting.

Despite this cruel past, Cake Batter grew into a sweet, upbeat dog who loved being around people.

Life with his new owner was everything he’d hoped for and more. Sadly, just one year later, his happiness was cut short when his beloved owner passed away.

This heartbreaking turn of events meant Cake Batter had to return to the Pennsylvania SPCA.

“For over a year he lived the best life. And then things changed again, his loving owner passed away and Cake Batter ended up back at the shelter,” the rescue shared in a post.

The team had hoped he would quickly find another home, but things didn’t go as smoothly as they wished.

Still Waiting For His Person

A full year has now passed, and Cake Batter is still at the shelter. This has been deeply disheartening for everyone involved, though the staff continues to do all they can to find him a new home.

They make sure he gets regular walks and try to keep him comfortable, but they can see the sadness in him.

“He very often lays at the back of his kennel. While we will never know what he is thinking, it seems like he’s dreaming of another place. He will of course get up to greet you when you kneel down. He will wag his tail, but he is getting older, and the time is ticking,” a rescuer from SPCA told The Dodo.

Cake Batter’s rescuers describe him as incredibly loving. They believe he would do best as the only pet in a household, where he can have all the attention.

“My biggest hope is that someone will love him as much as we all do. He deserves the world, and that is all we want for him. A loving, safe home,” the SPCA rescuer said.

While his future is uncertain, there’s no doubt his devoted rescuers will keep fighting for him. And hopefully soon, someone special will give Cake Batter the second chance he’s been waiting for.
