Our dogs are more than pets, they are loyal companions and part of our families. They share our homes, our routines, and our love. In return, they give us trust and devotion, certain that we will never abandon them.
Unfortunately, many pups end up in shelters after years with their people. Once left behind, these faithful dogs often become heartbroken and disoriented. All they want is to return to the only home they have ever known.
That was exactly the case for Jodi, a seven-year-old Pit Bull Terrier mix, who suddenly found herself surrendered to a shelter by the very family she had lived with her entire life.
Not understanding what had happened, Jodi kept glancing at the door of her kennel, waiting for her people to return. She had no idea that her life was about to change in a way she could never imagine.
A Shelter Favorite

Several dogs from the overcrowded Habersham County Animal Shelter in Georgia to the Little Guild, a shelter in northwest Connecticut.
For the Georgia staff and volunteers, one farewell was especially painful. They had to say goodbye to Jodi, the dog who had captured all their hearts.
She was simply their favorite, and they got attached to her ever since she came to the shelter.
“Jodi meant a lot to the staff and volunteers from their shelter. Volunteers cried when they found out we were going to take in Jodi and find her a home,” said Kelsey Turick, an employee at The Little Guild.
Jodi’s Heartbreaking Past

After seven years with her family, Jodi was surrendered to the Georgia shelter. Confused and sad, she kept looking for familiar faces, convinced her loved ones would come back.
What she didn’t realize was that her family had given her up due to a housing issue, and they were not returning.
The shelter team noticed her despair immediately. They tried to comfort her, showering her with affection and care. Still, they knew nothing could replace the family she had lost.
Because they wanted the best for her, Jodi’s Georgia friends arranged her transfer to Connecticut, where she might have a better chance at adoption.
When she first arrived at The Little Guild, Jodi was nervous and unsure. She hesitated to interact with the staff, so they gave her patience and time to adjust.

The Little Guild team responded with kindness and endless affection. Gradually, Jodi began to trust them, and soon she was cuddling with volunteers and soaking up their attention.
Her personality shone through, revealing a dog who loved people as much as she loved snuggling.
“She has a great personality and always wants to be with people. She loves to play fetch outside but also loves to snuggle up under a blanket with you. She is an older gal but still has lots of energy and loves her daily walks … She is a very special girl and means a lot to us,” Turick added.
A Forever Family At Last

The staff at The Little Guild were enchanted by Jodi and determined to help her find a home. Both her Georgia friends and her Connecticut supporters were rooting for her, convinced she would make the perfect companion who would wonderfully fit into any household.
Soon, the shelter shared the happiest news: Jodi had been adopted. When her new family looked into her soulful eyes, they instantly fell in love.
The sweet pup’s joy was obvious in her adoption photo, her face glowing with happiness.
Knowing that Jodi has finally found a family who loves and values her fills the heart with joy. After years of loyalty followed by heartbreak, she will never feel abandoned again.
