One thing dog owners do not always fully appreciate is just how smart their pups really are.
A lot of us assume dogs mostly operate on instinct, but time and again, they prove they are far more observant and resourceful than we give them credit for.
I know that firsthand. My own dog once figured out how to ring a bell even though nobody had ever shown him how. Moments like that are a good reminder that dogs pick up on much more than we tend to think.
One pup in Chicago made that point perfectly when he pulled off something so clever that the daycare staff could hardly believe what they were seeing.
A Pup Too Clever To Contain
At PUPS Pet Club, which operates locations in both Chicago and New York, daycare dogs spend their time in enclosed play areas. These small rooms are surrounded by low walls and barriers designed to keep everyone safe and secure.
But one particularly clever dog named Charlie showed that not every pup can be contained so easily.
The daycare staff shared security footage that revealed his incredible problem-solving skills.
When Charlie’s parents came to pick him up, they stopped to chat with the attendant. The conversation went on a bit longer than Charlie liked, and he grew impatient.
He clearly decided he had waited long enough and came up with a plan to speed things up.
How Charlie Made His Great Escape
Charlie spotted a folded stool leaning against the wall. Thinking quickly, he pushed it into place, unfolded it, climbed on top, and used it as a springboard to hop over the barrier that kept him in the play area.
Within moments, he had made his escape and sprinted straight toward the front lobby, tail wagging with excitement as he reunited with his family.
The other dogs in the room could only watch in amazement. Their puzzled faces said it all. Charlie had just pulled off the perfect jailbreak.
In a lighthearted caption accompanying the video, PUPS Pet Club wrote:
“You’ve got to see it to believe it! Charlie is one smart cookie.”
Charlie’s quick thinking and determination left everyone laughing and amazed. It was a perfect reminder of just how intelligent dogs can be when curiosity and love for their humans come together.
He didn’t just escape his kennel. He proved that sometimes, a clever pup can outsmart everyone in the room.
