While driving through Blue Springs, Missouri, a compassionate volunteer from Farm To Able noticed a heartbreaking sight—a tiny, helpless puppy tied to a crate and abandoned right in the middle of a highway.
Without thinking twice, she pulled over, rushed to the trembling pup’s side, and gently scooped him into her car, offering comfort he so desperately needed.
The little dog, who would later be named Sullivan, immediately relaxed in her arms—his frightened eyes softening with relief, as if he knew he was finally safe.
She quickly reported the incident to Animal Control, but after Sullivan’s five-day stray hold came and went with no one claiming him, the search for a safe haven began. Unfortunately, every local shelter she contacted was already stretched beyond capacity.
A Place to Land

Determined to help, the volunteer reached out to Sheriee, the founder of the sanctuary.
Moved by his story, Sheriee agreed to take Sullivan in and provide a loving foster home while helping him search for his forever family.
Once at the sanctuary, Sullivan began to settle in, quickly warming up to the environment.
He found unlikely companions among the sanctuary’s residents—pigs, cows, chickens, and horses—and wasted no time making new friends.
Despite everything he had been through, the young pup remained sweet and curious, quietly hopeful that his next chapter would be a happy one.

While Sullivan adjusted to his foster home, Sheriee started actively seeking the perfect adopter for him.
The more time she spent with the puppy, the more she realized just how unique he was.
“He’s got a calmness about him that’s very, very unique for a puppy,” Sheriee told Cuddle Buddies.
Sheriee began sending videos of Sullivan to her son, James, who had always wanted a dog. Jokingly, she once told him he should give Sully a home—only to be surprised when James said yes.
Meant To Be

From the moment James met Sullivan, it was clear—this was his dog.
“He said there was just something about it where he just felt like it was, that was his dog,” Sheriee added.
The bond between the two was instant. Sullivan melted into his new dad’s arms, radiating trust and joy.

Sheriee was overjoyed, confident that the two were meant to find each other.
“He will never have to worry whether or not his human loves him or is coming back for him… He will always be safe, protected & loved beyond measure,” she wrote on Instagram.
After three weeks at the sanctuary, Sullivan left for his forever home in Denver, Colorado, ready to start a brand new life.

Now living his best life, Sullivan enjoys hiking adventures and snowy playtimes with his new dad. His days are filled with love, comfort, and the excitement of exploring the world with his favorite person.
Thanks to one compassionate woman’s quick thinking and an open-hearted family, a little puppy once left tied on the side of a highway is now living his dream.
