Abandonment is devastating for any pup. Suddenly, they’re left to fend for themselves, scavenging for food and fighting to survive in a world that seems impossibly harsh.
The danger becomes even greater when abandoned dogs find themselves competing with strays or wild animals for the same scraps of food.
It’s heartbreaking to think that someone would leave a helpless dog in such conditions, especially when surrendering them to a shelter is a much safer option that takes little effort and could change the dog’s entire life.
So when rescuers in California got word that a tiny dog had been dumped in the middle of coyote territory, they couldn’t believe it—and immediately raced to help.
Alone In A Dangerous Place

The pup had been dumped under a freeway and somehow managed to survive for two weeks on his own, right next to land crawling with coyotes.
Thankfully, a tall gate separated him from the predators, keeping him safe—at least for now.
Suzette Hall’s friend, Scanlan M. Martha, first spotted the dog in the area, which was sadly a common dumping ground for abandoned pets.
It’s shocking because people leave them in a place where they basically have no chance of survival. How are they supposed to live on a highway, with coyotes nearby?

Some kind homeless people in the area occasionally shared food with him. Even though he was terrified of humans, the hungry pup couldn’t resist a free meal.
Hall knew she had to act fast. If she waited any longer, his fate could have been very different. She grabbed her rescue gear and rushed to the site. By the time she arrived, night had already fallen, making the search even more difficult.
Food, Safety, And Sleep

After carefully searching the area, Hall spotted the little dog huddled in fear. The sight broke her heart.
She could see his fear, but she also noticed the desperation in his eyes—he was starving. Food became the key to his rescue.
Hall set out some food near a humane trap. The pup cautiously approached, but hunger quickly won out. He walked inside and ate until his belly was full.
And then, something incredible happened.
The exhausted dog curled up and fell asleep right there, as if he finally knew he was safe.

Hall quietly transported him back to the California shelter. There, he could finally rest, heal, and receive the medical care he needed.
Now, with a full belly, love, and treatment, his recovery is on the way.
Everyone at the shelter hopes this is just a short stop on his journey—and that a forever family will soon welcome him into their hearts and home.
