When it comes to stray dogs, it’s sadly common to see them wandering the streets in many places around the world.
It’s a global issue, and although some strays adapt to life outside, many continue to face daily struggles just to survive.
Dogs who have spent years living indoors with their owners often have the hardest time. They aren’t used to fending for themselves, and some cling to the hope that their humans will return — even when that hope is in vain.
This particular dog’s situation was even more heartbreaking. She was abandoned in a cage, left out in the cold for hours until compassionate rescuers came to save her.
There’s Hope
When the team from Kings Harvest Pet Rescue in Iowa first found a dog left to shiver in freezing weather, they were stunned.
It appeared that her owner had been spotted leaving her near the old shelter building before driving away.
Perhaps the owner thought people still worked there and that leaving her nearby meant she’d be helped quickly. But the truth was, the building had been empty for months. CCTV footage showed the dog following her owner all the way to the kennel before being abandoned.
Even more distressing was the fact that she was limping. After her owner left, a kind passerby saw the forlorn pup and called for help.
When rescuers arrived, they were heartbroken by what they saw. The dog, later named Rise, was extremely thin, limping, and clearly neglected.
They wasted no time getting her to the shelter where she could receive immediate care.
On The Road To Recovery
Once safe, Rise began receiving medical attention. Thankfully, no severe health issues were found, meaning her road to recovery would be much quicker.
She still needs to get her vaccinations before she can be placed on the adoption list or move to a foster home.
In the meantime, the team is actively looking for foster parents who can care for her until she finds a forever family.
It’s unclear why her owner chose to abandon her in this way. At the very least, they could have surrendered her directly to a shelter rather than leaving her out in the cold.
Kings Harvest Pet Rescue urges people not to be afraid to reach out for help if they are unable to care for their pets.
Thanks to the quick actions of a Good Samaritan, Rise was found in time and given the chance to start over. She now has the opportunity to find a family that will treat her with the love and kindness she deserves.
