Texas Man Heard Distant Barks Under His Home And Discovered A Shocking Surprise In A Deep Pit

Imagine living in your house without knowing what lies beneath.

Then, suddenly, you hear distant, eerie barks coming right through the floorboards and have no idea what to make of it.

It sounds spooky, right?

This is exactly what happened to a man in Longview, Texas. When he finally uncovered the source of the mysterious sounds, both he and the rescue team were stunned.

How Did The Dog End Up There

The Texas resident went from worried to hero in a matter of hours. After hearing the loud but distant barking coming from beneath the ground, he immediately contacted animal control. Officer Jumper arrived to investigate.

Soon, he discovered the sounds came from a deep, rock-lined well located directly under the house’s floorboards.

The discovery shocked everyone. How had no one noticed this pit before? And how did a dog get trapped inside? While searching for answers, Officer Jumper called for backup.

Within minutes, staff from the Longview Animal Care and Adoption Center and the Longview Fire Department arrived on site.

Together, they began the difficult rescue of a dog trapped inside a 12-foot-deep well.

At first, rescuers thought the dog was out of reach and considered tearing up the floorboards to reach him.

Then they came up with a better plan.

Instead of damaging the home, the team crafted makeshift slings and carefully pulled the dog out. The rescue took about three hours, but the Basset Hound was finally safe.

“Thanks to the quick thinking and heroic efforts of our local firefighters and animal control team, the dog was safely brought to the surface, shaken but unharmed,” the shelter wrote in a Facebook post.

Happy Ending

After a brief health check, rescuers confirmed the dog was in good condition, with no injuries or underlying health concerns.

The dog was named Timmy, after the famous TV character from “Lassie,” and transported to the rescue center. It turned out Timmy had no owner, so he was available for adoption.

One firefighter, impressed by Timmy’s sweet nature, immediately wanted to adopt him.

“Timmy is doing good and if not reclaimed, one of the firefighters will be adopting him,” Kimberly Brown-Brooks, the rescue coordinator, hared in the comments.

Unfortunately, Timmy and the man’s cats did not get along, so the firefighter had to give up the adoption. The good news is that Timmy quickly found a loving family who fell for his personality.

Now, Timmy’s life is filled with cuddles, adventures, and fun times in his new yard.

Meanwhile, the Longview Animal Care and Adoption Center thanked everyone involved in the rescue, highlighting the power of community.

“Thank you to everyone who played a part in this miraculous rescue. It’s a true reminder of the incredible bond between humans and animals, and how a community comes together in times of need,” the Texas shelter concluded.
