Colorado Deputies Responded To A Car Break-In Only To Realize The Culprit Was Actually A Furry Animal

He pulled up to the vehicle and expected evidence of a break-in: smashed glass, open door, maybe missing items.

Instead, what greeted the police officer as he peered inside made him pause. The backseat looked fine, but the driver’s seat held someone unexpected.

His heart skipped a beat when he realized the “someone” had paws, not hands. The engine was off, the keys in ignition, but the figure behind the wheel was decidedly non-human.

The Colorado police officer backed away, called for backup, and watched the scene unfold through the flashing lights. The animal didn’t bolt. It sat still, calm, as though it belonged.

What began as a routine call for a car break-in suddenly turned into a wildlife encounter no one anticipated.

The Furry Suspect

Not too long ago, sheriff’s deputies in Colorado were called by a concerned citizen who suspected that somebody had broken into his car.

The officers took the matter seriously and immediately rushed into action. They were on the scene in no time and started looking for the car.

When they got there, they saw no evidence that a person had broken in. What they really saw shocked them completely.

A bear somehow got inside the vehicle and started rummaging through it. Since the car was unlocked, the bear just kind of opened the door, got inside and closed it behind him.

Larimer County Sheriff’s Office noted that the bear was trapped inside, and he didn’t look very happy about this.

The Colorado deputies called for reinforcements because this was a complicated situation. More deputies arrived and assessed the situation.

The Bear Just Ran Away

They assumed that they would have to use bear spray after releasing him, but they opened the car door and the bear just sprinted out and went into the woods.

The car owner and the deputies assessed the damage in the car, and they came to the conclusion that the bear had not done much damage.

The deputies later wondered why the bear got into the car in the first place. They asked the car owner, and he told them that he had no snacks inside.

They suspected that the bear smelled the air freshener or chewing gum and that probably lured him into the car. He thought that he was going to find food.

Shortly after this incident unfolded, everything went back to normal, but it’s important to emphasize the need to always lock your car and close all the windows to prevent accidents like this from happening.

You never know when an encounter like this one could go south very quickly. Fortunately, the deputies handled the situation calmly and everything went smoothly.
