For all my farmers out there, you know that every animal on your farm has an important role to play.
The chickens provide fresh, yummy eggs; the cows give rich milk; and the goats help to clear out overgrown fields. I’m pretty sure we can all agree that no farm is complete without a loyal guard dog.
A good guard dog knows the land as well as you do, patrolling the fields for predators, keeping a watchful eye on the livestock, and, of course, giving you some really good company.
However, there is one adorable farm dog named Evie who decided that it was time to break the rules.
New Home
Evie’s past wasn’t really great.
Unfortunately, she was cruelly thrown out of a moving car when she was only 8 weeks old. She was confused, hurt, and utterly heartbroken. Luckily, Valley of The Sun Dog Rescue, a rescue based in Arizona, saw her struggles and took her in.
After they helped her recover for a bit, they decided to look for a loving foster home where Evie could be able to decompress and learn what it is like to be loved.
Not long after they started looking for fosters, the Arizona shelter received a message from a farm owner named Allison Thomison. Even though the acceded left little Evie deaf, she refused to give up on her wild and happy spirit.
So, when Thomison picked up on that, she fell head-over-heels in love with this sweet girl and decided to adopt her.
Now, you may think that when a pup comes to live on a working farm, it will grow up into a serious guard dog. Well, not necessarily. Evie decided to take another route.
Little Chaotic Evie
Evie doesn’t really like to work nor does she like to take life too seriously.
“On the farm, she causes chaos by playing with the cows, chasing the goats, making friends with mangy cats, and tries to play with packs of coyotes,” Thomison, told Newsweek.
From standing in the middle of a water bowl to stealing food to drinking milk straight from a cow’s udder, Evie simply doesn’t care!
And, since she can’t hear a thing, she decided to use her sharp vision to her advantage.
“She loves kids and loves other animals, and she especially loves to run beside the big dogs. She can’t hear a thing, so her whole world is visual. She watches planes in the sky, notices when the leaves start to change, and makes note of every single rock, twig, plant on the farm,” she added.
Thomison absolutely adores her sweet girl and doesn’t consider her to be disabled at all; in fact, she sees her as “differently abled”.
“People shouldn’t be scared of a deaf dog, either. Evie sees the world in a way that we could never understand, but she is the happiest animal I have ever experienced. Everyone could learn a thing or two from Evie,” she concluded.
