If we take a closer look at the world around us, we can often see abandoned dogs left to fend for themselves on the streets. These painful scenes are almost always the result of human cruelty, which sometimes seems to know no limits.
One of the clearest examples of this happened in San Dimas, California. That day, a local employee heard loud cries in the distance and decided to follow them.
The sound led him through a California Business Park until he finally reached a dumpster. As the cries grew louder, he feared what he might find inside.
When he finally looked, his heart sank.
Three Helpless Puppies Left Behind
A local employee uncovered a devastating scene inside the dumpster: three tiny German Shepherd puppies, abandoned and left to die. The shocking discovery was later shared in the a Facebook post in the ‘Lost and Found Pets of La Verne and San Dimas’ Facebook group.
“Hi All, An employee found these dogs in the trash at 949 cataract San Dimas at a business park, animal control is not open. Can anyone help? I am up in Northern California and can’t do anything.” an employee’s colleague Linda Denise Valdez wrote.
She explained that the man who found them couldn’t provide help himself because “he himself lives in a motel and has no transportation.” At that point, the puppies were starving and in desperate need of care to survive.
Fortunately, the group’s admin, Carolyn Castro, came across the post and decided to step in, though she too needed support.
“I picked them up they do not have a chip. I really need someone with a larger area and kennel to foster them. Poor babies were starving and thirsty. Please message me.” she wrote in another Facebook post.
Despite the difficult circumstances, the right people quickly came together, and help arrived just in time.
Finally Safe And On The Road To Healing
Thanks to an overwhelming number of people reaching out to Carolyn with offers of help, the puppies were quickly brought to safety.
In her interview for KTLA, Carolyn said she “picked up the dogs from the employee and brought them to get medical attention.” She added that the rescue group Big Dog Haven stepped in to help her nurse the puppies back to health.
Later, according to an update from Linda, the decision was made to transfer the puppies to Village Mutt, in Claremont, California, where they would continue their recovery.
“I’m thrilled to announce that the dogs are safe and sound, thanks to the incredible efforts of *Carolyn* and the amazing people at *Village Mutt*!” Linda wrote in her update post.
In her final message, she expressed gratitude to everyone who played a part in saving the pups: “A huge thank you to everyone for your unwavering support and concern. These beautiful pups have been rescued and are now in loving hands.”
While many people were involved in the rescue, it is important to remember the first man who made the decision to listen to those cries and investigate instead of walking away.
Without his compassion, this story might never have had a happy ending. In a world that can often feel heartless, it is people like him who quietly prove that heroes still exist.
