A Minnesota couple found a clever way to connect with their neighbor’s Corgi despite the fence, sparking a heartwarming response online.
Living in a suburban area has many benefits, especially if you own a dog! Not only does your furry friend get a big yard, but they also get neighbors nearby.
A Minnesota owner recently shared the adorable bond her Corgi has with her neighbors, and it quickly touched hearts across the internet.
An elderly couple loves to greet Poppy, the Corgi, every day. The only issue was whenever they tried to pet her, the fence was in the way. So, the couple decided to fix that, and it was a sweet gesture!
The Bond That Warms Hearts

Katie Sammon, from Minnesota, and her ten-month-old dog, Poppy, enjoy their large yard. Poppy, who is well-socialized, loves meeting new people, and her neighbors were the first to greet her.
Every day she goes out to play but always stops first to say hello to Gary and Dorothy, the elderly couple next door.

A friendship formed quickly, and greeting her beloved humans became a daily routine. Poppy loves being the center of attention and enjoys those brief cuddles over the fence.
The only problem: sometimes her neighbors struggled to reach her.

Instead of fully enjoying cuddles, Poppy had to stand on her hind legs to reach Gary and Dorothy’s hands because she is small. To solve this, Gary, who spends much time in his garage working on projects, decided to help.
One day, Katie looked outside and saw the sweetest DIY gift right by the fence: custom wooden steps for Poppy! It was truly adorable.
Now She Can Reach Her Beloved Neighbors

Katie joked that Gary and Dorothy needed steps to reach Poppy, and when she saw the steps, she was delighted.
This kind act touched Katie so much she recorded it and shared the video on TikTok. In just a few days, the post went viral, warming millions of hearts.
“My neighbors love petting our Corgi but they have a hard time reaching her. Today I looked out and saw this. They build her steps to reach her better,” Katie wrote in the video.

Before the steps, Poppy struggled to reach her owners. Now she can easily stand on them and enjoy endless cuddles without effort. Looking at the new tool, it’s safe to say she’s just two steps away from her friends.
Gary and Dorothy no longer need to bend down to pet Poppy; she is now perfectly reachable.
Many viewers called Gary and Dorothy not just neighbors but practically family.
“I know good neighbors when I see them,” one commenter wrote.
“At this point you need a connecting gate and joint custody. They are her nana and poppy, I don’t make the rules,” another added.
One user shared their own dog’s neighbor story, showing how dogs often form lasting bonds with local residents.
“My dog adopted my neighbor. He even ate at their house. I’d let him out to potty and he’d disappear into hers. She was living by herself and he knew she needed company,” the user wrote.
Hopefully, Poppy’s story is just the start, and we’ll see more moments capturing this sweet friendship.
