Julie and Jimmy share their home with three beloved dogs, so they’re used to paws padding into their room during the night.
But one evening, instead of their own pups, a new face snuck under the covers.
“As daylight began to creep in through our curtains, we realized we were snuggling with someone else’s dog,” says Julie.

The Search For Nala’s Family
It didn’t take long for the mystery to be solved. Thanks to Julie’s viral post, Nala’s real mom, Cris Hawkins, who lived just a few houses down from them, saw the photos and immediately reached out.
She sent over proof of ownership and then hurried down the street to reunite with her adventurous pup.
When Cris arrived, she found Nala still curled up comfortably in bed with Jimmy, as though she had always belonged there.
According to Cris, Nala must have slipped out of her collar during the storm and wandered until she found the Johnsons’ home.
From One Visit To A Lifelong Bond
Though the initial mix-up was resolved, the story didn’t end there. Julie and Jimmy formed a fast friendship with Cris, and their dogs bonded too.
Soon, playdates and visits became a regular part of life. Even after Cris and her partner moved farther away, the families stayed close, cherishing the connection Nala’s little adventure had created.
“Nala and her moms are almost moved into their new house, which is now nowhere near ours. I’m thrilled that Nala’s mom and the Johnsons are staying in touch! Nala is thriving in her new home,” Julie wrote.
