Texas Couple Visits Shelter For A Chihuahua But Gets Chosen By A Different Dog

No puppy deserves to grow up behind shelter walls, missing out on the joys of a real home.

Even when the staff showers them with affection, shelter dogs can’t experience the happiness of living with a family.

Fang knew that feeling well. He was brought to the Laurie P. Andrews Adoption Center in Edinburg, Texas, by animal control—alongside his mom and eight siblings—when he was only a few days old.

As he grew, Fang dreamed of the day he would meet a family of his own.

Hoping To Meet His Forever People

Month after month, Fang stayed near the window of his kennel, hoping his future family would come.

He never let himself lose hope. He believed the day would come when his biggest dream came true.

Finally, it did. A couple came into the Texas shelter, originally looking to adopt a Chihuahua.

But things didn’t go as planned.

The moment they saw Fang, a bond formed. Fang felt it too, and began barking to get their attention.

The couple took him out for a walk and quickly fell in love. They knew they wanted to take him home and give him all their affection.

Once they held him in their arms, Fang melted into them and clung tightly. He could feel that the people he had waited for were finally there.

He had found his home.

Beginning A New Life

Aileen Betancourt, an adoption specialist at the shelter, wasn’t surprised. She had seen many dogs choose their people first.

She uploaded a video of Fang’s adoption on TikTok and captioned it with: “A family came looking for a Chihuahua, but sometimes the dog picks the family.”

Betancourt hoped the clip would motivate other adopters to notice dogs like Fang and offer them love.

Fang adjusted quickly to his new life. Wanting to start fresh, he changed his name to Bruno.

Bruno is thrilled that his wish for a family has finally been fulfilled.

His faith never faded, and we’re overjoyed for him.

Enjoy your new life, Bruno, you deserve it.
