When it comes to unexpected moments with dogs, there’s one simple rule: never say never!
No matter how well you think you know them, your pup will eventually find a way to catch you off guard. And sometimes, those surprises are not bad at all.
Some owners eventually uncover hidden talents, quirky habits, or sweet little obsessions.
But for Rocio and her husband, living in Washington, D.C. what they discovered was something completely different. And it shook them to their core.
At First, They Thought It Was Just Once
Rocio, her husband, their Dachshund named Vienna, and their new Pug, Floki, seemed like the perfect little family.
Life was running smoothly until one morning everything changed. Rocio woke to hear loud, human-like screams echoing from the living room. She rushed out of bed, terrified something was terribly wrong, and then froze at the sight in front of her.
It was Floki.
For reasons they couldn’t explain, Floki was screaming so loudly that even Vienna was unsettled. Since nothing obvious seemed wrong, they brushed it off as a one-time incident.
But then it happened again. And again. And again.
“Before getting Floki, I didn’t know a dog could do THIS. But one day, I saw him screaming at the top of his lungs. I was like, ‘Man, what are you screaming for?’,” Rocio told Cuddle Buddies.
Although Floki wasn’t hurt, hungry, or frightened, the screaming continued. For several days, his family tried to soothe him with treats or calm words, but nothing worked.
Worried something more serious was going on, Rocio and her husband finally decided to take him to the vet. The possibility that he might be sick was too heavy to ignore.
What they found out left them completely stunned.
Could That Really Be The Answer?
After a full examination, the vet confirmed that Floki was perfectly healthy.
So why the terrifying screams? The explanation left his family baffled.
His screams, as strange as they sounded, were simply his way of expressing himself.
“We took him to the vet, we did all the check-ups… It turned out Floki is a 100% healthy Pug. He has no heart or breathing problems. His screams are just the way he expresses himself,” his mom says.
Neither she nor her husband could wrap their heads around it at first. All that noise was simply Floki’s unique way of communicating? Really?
From then on, they decided not to interfere.
Instead of trying to stop him, they embraced it. And soon, they found it absolutely hilarious.
Now Floki feels free to let out his dramatic screams whenever he wants. Whether demanding dinner or reacting to a bird outside the window, he doesn’t hesitate to fill the house with his piercing cries.
If there were an award for the loudest dog in Washington, D.C., Floki would certainly take home the gold.
Still, Rocio and her husband couldn’t be happier. Understanding Floki better has brought them even closer to him, and they look forward to discovering more of his unexpected quirks in the future.
