South Carolina Couple Stunned To Learn the “Coyote” Following Them Wasn’t A Coyote At All

South Carolina Couple Stunned To Learn the “Coyote” Following Them Wasn’t A Coyote At All

Stray dogs often wander from place to place, hoping someone will finally see them. They search for safety and a bit of kindness in a world that often ignores them.

When life becomes too hard, they look to strangers, trusting that maybe this time, someone will stop and care.

Sprite was one of those dogs. She appeared one evening in a South Carolina neighborhood, her small figure moving carefully through the shadows as she tried to follow a couple walking their dogs. At first glance, they thought she was something entirely different.

What happened next changed everything for Sprite and for the people whose lives she unexpectedly touched.

A Mistaken Identity

Tiffany Seeger and David Gray had just returned after taking their dogs for a walk. It was then that they noticed a small gray shape following them.

Since the couple lives in Greenville, South Carolina, they were used to seeing coyotes nearby, and they became worried for their pups.

They quickly brought their dogs inside. As they tried to figure out what to do next, they looked again at the creature, only to come to a shocking conclusion.

The animal outside wasn’t a coyote at all. It was a small, scared dog. She seemed lonely and exhausted, but she was incredibly sweet.

In an instant, Seeger’s fear turned into compassion.

“I went from being really scared for my dogs’ safety to thinking, ‘Oh my God, she’s so cute. How can we help her?’” Seeger told The Dodo.

They brought the stray to a nearby vet clinic, hoping she had a family looking for her. She had neither a microchip nor a collar. They knew nothing about her past.

Seeger and Gray were determined to help her reunite with her family in case she was lost. They posted her picture online and checked every lost pet group in Greenville.

Days went by, but no one came forward.

Finding Her Place

They named her Sprite and brought her home. After a warm meal and a relaxing bath, she began to relax. The fear in her eyes dissipated.

When she met their two dogs, Totoro and Mei, she approached carefully at first, tail wagging low. Minutes later, the three were playing as if they’d always been together.

That night, Seeger and Gray made a pillow fort on the floor so Sprite wouldn’t feel alone.

“We were one big cuddle puddle,” Seeger added.

By morning, they knew she belonged there, at least for now.

To make sure she got proper care, they reached out to Dog Squad, a local rescue. Sprite received her vaccinations and a full checkup.

The couple agreed to foster her while the search for her forever home continued, but each passing day made that idea a little harder.

“Her number one personality trait is love. She’s so sweet, and everyone who meets her falls for her. We wanted to find her a forever home but maybe she’s already found it here,” Seeger said.

Whether she stays with Seeger and Gray or finds another loving family, Sprite will never have to face the world alone again.
