Bruce and Sue, a couple from Maui, Hawaii, have dedicated their lives to helping animals in need. Over the years, they have faced plenty of tough rescues, but some situations are so startling they linger in memory.
During one of their routine feeding rounds, they stumbled upon a scene that was both heartbreaking and urgent.
A helpless animal had wedged her head into a hole in a concrete wall and was struggling desperately to break free. Shocked by what they saw, Bruce and Sue knew there was no time to waste. They had to act quickly to prevent her suffering from growing worse.
Identifying And Reaching The Animal

The couple immediately contacted the Maui Humane Society. Within minutes, Officer Kaitlyn Mason from the Department of Humane Enforcement arrived at the scene.
Upon closer inspection, the trapped animal was a feral cat. She had been frantically trying to escape, but the narrow wall offered no relief.
The rescuers realized that simply pulling her out could seriously injure her neck.

Kaitlyn and the couple carefully began chiseling away the concrete surrounding her.
“With little space inside the wall and not wanting to risk pulling too hard on her neck, Officer Mason and Bruce began to chisel away at the concrete. After some careful work, they managed to set her free,” the Maui Humane Society shared on Facebook.

Bit by bit, the cat’s head became visible. In the final moments, Bruce helped Kaitlyn remove the remaining pieces of concrete around her neck. She was finally free.
The rescuers named her Kaity, in honor of her hero that day.
Kaity’s Safe Recovery

As a precaution, Kaitlyn took Kaity to a veterinary clinic to ensure she had no injuries. Bruce and Sue anxiously awaited the update.
The next day, they were relieved and overjoyed to hear that Kaity was completely healthy. After being spayed, she was returned to the couple’s property, where her feral colony lived.
“Thankfully, she had no injuries, and after being spayed, she was returned to Bruce and Sue’s property the next day,” the Maui Humane Society wrote.

Bruce and Sue welcomed her back warmly, giving her a special treat to celebrate her rescue. Kaity received love, attention, and comfort for the first time in a long while.
Now, with her ordeal behind her, Kaity is roaming freely again, enjoying life alongside her feline companions. The difficult experience is behind her, and she can now live in safety, surrounded by care.
Kaity’s story is a testament to compassion and careful teamwork, and she finally has the chance to thrive in a safe environment.
