While walking near a canal in Price, Utah, a couple suddenly heard unusual sounds coming from the water.
Curious, they leaned in closer and noticed something furry moving along the canal’s edge.
When they realized what it was, they were stunned.
A Dog In Need

A small, helpless pup had fallen into the canal and was desperately trying to climb out.
Because the area was fenced in with barbed wire, the couple couldn’t reach the dog themselves. But leaving her behind wasn’t an option. They quickly called the local police department for help.
Captain Brandon Ratcliffe picked up the call. As soon as he learned what was going on, he rushed to the scene.

When Captain Brandon arrived, the dog, later identified as Chica, was struggling to stay afloat. She barked frantically, gasping for air while trying to cling to the bank.
“The sounds she was making [were] like she was having trouble breathing or had water in her lungs. Nonetheless, I climbed the fence and jumped over the barbed wire while Officer Tapia was able to unlock the gate further down the canal on the other side. Just in case she slipped away, Officer Tapia would have been in position to grab her.” said Captain Brandon.
Thankfully, Brandon reached Chica in time, scooped her up, and carried her to safety.
Overwhelmed with relief, Chica refused to be put down. She simply wanted to be held tightly by her rescuer.

New Friends
At first, Captain Brandon planned to bring Chica directly to a rescue center, but he changed his mind. Instead, he took her home, cleaned her up, and made sure she felt comfortable.
Afterward, he introduced her to everyone at the Price City Police Department. Chica, being as sweet as can be, quickly charmed the officers and staff. She seemed thrilled to be safe and loved.

Once her little adventure at the station was over, Chica was brought to the vet, where a scan revealed she had a microchip. Her worried owner had been searching for her all morning.
When reunited, the grateful woman couldn’t stop thanking Captain Brandon for saving her beloved pup.
“The owner offered to pay the individuals who spotted Chica, but I told her all everyone wanted was to make sure Chica was OK.” Brandon explained.

Final Word
I’m grateful for people like Captain Brandon, who never hesitate to act when an animal, or anyone, is in need.
And Chica, your determination to hold on reminded me that persistence truly pays off. Good girl, Chica!
