One couple sprang into a mystery-decoding mode after finding their freshly laid lawn in California destroyed every morning. For days, they’d wake up to find the grass flipped, torn up, and completely wrecked.
However, despite their best efforts, they couldn’t figure out who, or what, was behind it. Then, they decided to take matters into their own hands by installing security cameras.
The culprit, though, was definitely not what they expected!
What’s The Real Reason Behind It
For a while, the couple was sure they had finally achieved their dream lawn.
They had invested time, effort, and money into putting down fresh sod in their backyard. But then, out of nowhere, strange things kept happening.
They woke up each morning to find their beautiful lawn flipped.
“We thought the new lawn was finally ready for its close-up…until THIS started happening. Every morning — flipped. Torn. Moved. Like a little green crime scene,” the California couple wrote on TikTok.
Someone, or something, was apparently determined to ruin all their hard work overnight. But who might that be?
Was it a prank? A neighbor? Someone’s dog?
After a while, they knew they had to get to the bottom of it.
“The grass keeps getting flipped over in the middle of the night. Who — or what — is behind it? We’re finally installing security cameras to catch the culprit in action,” they added in another video.
With their cameras set up, the couple finally had the evidence they needed to solve the mystery. But when they finally saw the footage, it was nothing like they expected.
“After weeks of wondering who kept flipping the grass in the middle of the night…we finally caught the culprit on camera! Mystery solved — and it’s not what we expected (we thought it was the next door neighbor who hated the tree),” they wrote.
It was a raccoon!
For some reason, this furry culprit had been wreaking havoc on their lawn, and they finally had it on tape.
The clever creature had been sneaking into the yard during the night, digging up the grass, flipping it around, and then leaving chaos.
The couple, however, couldn’t stay mad. They were finally glad to resolve the mystery.
“Guess we can’t be mad, because we originally thought it was an angry neighbor,” they jokingly concluded.
Raccoons Are Masters Of Mischief
While raccoons may look cute, the truth is they can be quite mischievous creatures.
They typically have a knack for getting into places they shouldn’t be and causing all kinds of trouble. In this case, they had turned the backyard into their personal playground, most likely in search of food.
Their front paws allow them to easily overturn sod, tear up gardens, and even damage bird feeders. While they are clever, their antics can be frustrating for homeowners.
Fortunately, this couple is now ready to tackle the raccoon challenge. After all, it’s better than dealing with a grumpy neighbor, right?
