When it comes to choosing between your pet and other major life decisions, the choice is often clear. Our four-legged friends are a part of who we are, making it impossible to exclude them from our big plans.
So, when Heather and her fiancé, a Maine couple, faced this dilemma after their 15-year-old Chihuahua mix, Elvis, fell ill, they didn’t hesitate at all.
Instead of organizing the big wedding ceremony they had planned, the couple decided to redirect their budget toward Elvis’ treatment. Turns out, it was the best decision they could have made!
The Only Right Choice

Elvis is the ultimate doggo pet. He has been in Heather’s life for more than a decade, bringing smiles and comfort, and just being there for her.
However, a little after his fifteenth birthday, this Chi mix started to experience seizures, requiring an immediate veterinary treatment. So far, Elvis has already been dealing with kidney disease, so when his seizures came, the couple knew they had to act quickly.

Elvis’ exams included x-rays, ultrasounds, EKGs and others. Still, the cause for his seizures wasn’t found.
The Chi mix was kept in a Maine vet care for close monitoring after having three consecutive seizures in a single night.
Although the cause was still unclear, he started feeling better. After a few days in care, Elvis was ready to come home.
The couple, who planned a big ceremony for their wedding, stated that they had put their plans on hold due to Elvis’ medical emergency. In a heartwarming Instagram post, Heather showcases her partner and herself bringing Elvis to the vet back and forth. The in-video text reads:
“When you spend your whole wedding budget saving your 15-year-old dog.”

Soon enough, the post went viral, followed by hundreds of emotional comments.
“Absolutely best decision ever, You guys show what real love is. Yes a wedding party would have been nice but not without your baby,” one person wrote.
“Please start a gofundme for that wedding! We wanna see the pup there,” another suggested.
15 Years Of Life, 11 Years In Momma’s Heart

There’s no doubt Elvis is the heart and soul of Heather’s family. He was picked out by her late sister, and ever since her passing, he has been a part of Heather’s life.
“15 years on this earth and 11 with me, you’ve lived a lot of lives and have been my sidekick throughout it all. It’s always been Heather and Elvis as one entity. You bring so many people so much joy too,” Heather recently wrote in an emotional birthday post.
Now the couple who planned to have a big wedding will go for a low-key, backyard event with the closest family and friends.

The original idea was to make Elvis a central figure, but considering his current health situation, this is the only option feasible. The couple intends to have a small ceremony, and then a bigger celebration once Elvis feels better.
There’s no doubt that, when the time comes, this striking Chi mix will nail his wedding role! After all, it’s for his momma who loves him so much!
