Cane Corso Found Dehydrated And Weak In California Desert Begins A New Life Across State Lines

Dogs are often called loyal companions, but not all are treated with the love they deserve.

Some are cast aside, left to fend for themselves without shelter or nourishment.

Anderson, a Cane Corso, faced this harsh reality when he was abandoned deep in Box Canyon near Mecca, California. For days, he wandered alone, nearing collapse until a couple stumbled upon him.

Left To Survive In The Wilderness

While camping in the canyon, Jason and Katie noticed a Cane Corso curled up near their site. They were stunned to see a dog without a leash or owner in such an isolated place.

Jason cautiously approached and offered water. The dog drank gratefully. Anderson was skeletal, barely able to lift his head or stand.

Realizing he had likely been abandoned, they contacted Kirk Geiger, co-founder of The Animal Rescue Center Of California

“When we first found him he couldn’t lift his head, he had a really hard time standing up, his eyes were blood red, like he was so dehydrated,” the woman told Kirk.

Kirk arrived within hours. Anderson was wary at first but quickly warmed up to him and the rescue team.

Kirk was amazed at how quickly Anderson adjusted. Most abandoned dogs remain guarded, but Anderson began to trust within a day.

When Kirk offered food, Anderson accepted it eagerly.

After their meeting, they transported him to the rescue facility for further care.

Healing And Hope At Last

Veterinarians determined Anderson was about a year and a half old. Despite his ordeal, he was in surprisingly good health. He was sociable and made friends easily.

He passed his behavioral evaluation with top marks, showing no signs of aggression. His playful demeanor hinted at previous training.

“He’s just been a joy to have and we have completely fallen in love with this breed. He is such an amazing dog. He’s just the sweetest, goofiest, lovebug and so devoted and incredibly bright, totally low key,” his rescuers wrote.

Anderson’s story quickly spread online, drawing attention from potential adopters. One man named Jay stood out.

Jay, who already had a Cane Corso and a Shih Tzu, was moved by Anderson’s journey and arranged a visit. Their bond was instant. Anderson had found his person.

“There was no doubt in our minds that they were a perfect match. Anderson took to him immediately and Jay is a natural leader, so he listened to every word Jay had to say,” The Animal Rescue Center Of California wrote.

Jay and Anderson then traveled to Oregon to begin their new life together. After everything he had endured, Anderson finally found someone who truly cared.

Now, with two canine companions and a loving home, Anderson is ready for a future filled with joy, and he’ll never be left behind again.
