Though dogs are often called man’s best friend, some suffer cruelty at the hands of their owners.
Instead of enjoying a caring home, they are forced to roam, searching for shelter and food after being unwanted.
Anderson, a Cane Corso, faced this harsh fate when he was abandoned deep in Box Canyon, near Mecca, California. For days, he wandered the wilderness alone, nearing the brink of survival when a couple finally found him.
Cruel Abandonment

While camping in the canyon, Jason and Katie spotted a Cane Corso curled up close to their campsite. They were shocked to find a dog without a leash or owner in such a remote area.
Jason approached slowly and offered the dog some water, which the dog gratefully drank. Anderson was severely emaciated, struggling to lift his head and barely able to stand.
Realizing the dog was likely abandoned, they reached out to Kirk Geiger, co-founder of The Animal Rescue Center Of California.

“When we first found him he couldn’t lift his head, he had a really hard time standing up, his eyes were blood red, like he was so dehydrated,” the woman told Kirk.
Kirk arrived within hours. The dog, later named Anderson, was nervous around Kirk initially but quickly warmed up to him and the rescuers.
Kirk was impressed that Anderson took only a day to relax and socialize with new people, especially since abandoned dogs often stay suspicious of strangers.
When Kirk offered Anderson food, the large dog eagerly accepted him.
After their meeting, they drove to the rescue facility where Anderson received further care.
A New Beginning
Veterinary exams revealed Anderson was around a year and a half old and, despite everything, in good health. He was friendly and made friends easily wherever he went.
He passed his evaluation with the highest marks, showing no aggression toward other dogs. His playful nature suggested prior training.
“He’s just been a joy to have and we have completely fallen in love with this breed. He is such an amazing dog. He’s just the sweetest, goofiest, lovebug and so devoted and incredibly bright, totally low key,” his rescuers wrote.
Anderson’s story spread quickly on social media, attracting many adoption requests. One potential adopter, Jay, stood out.
Jay, who owns a Cane Corso and a Shih Tzu, was immediately touched by Anderson’s story and arranged to meet him. They bonded instantly, and it was clear Anderson had found his new dad.
“There was no doubt in our minds that they were a perfect match. Anderson took to him immediately and Jay is a natural leader, so he listened to every word Jay had to say,” The Animal Rescue Center Of California wrote.
The two then drove to Jay’s home in Oregon to begin their new life. After everything he had endured, Anderson finally found someone who showed him real love and care.
With his two dog companions, Anderson is set for many happy adventures ahead, and most importantly, he will never face abandonment again.
