Stray dogs often end up in hidden places, far away from people, usually because they’ve been hurt or scared by them. After experiencing mistreatment, many dogs choose to isolate themselves just to feel safe.
That’s why so many are found in abandoned buildings, alleys, or tucked-away corners where they can avoid further harm.
But this pup’s situation stood out. He likely hadn’t been abused, yet he still stayed far from others. What made his story unusual was the fact that he had made his home in an elevator.
Yes, it sounds surprising. Although railroad employees nearby used the elevator from time to time, the dog never caused any trouble.
Luckily, his days of living in isolation were coming to an end after a concerned passerby reached out for help.
He Had A Look Of Deep Sadness
When a kind person alerted Suzette Hall, the founder of Logan’s Legacy in California, about a pup taking shelter in an elevator, she immediately knew action was needed.
There was no telling how long the dog had been there. One could only imagine how often he had ridden the elevator as people went up and down around him.
Even though some workers had been kind enough to bring him food, it was clear that this wasn’t a safe or proper place for him to live.
Suzette reached out to her friend, Mary Nakiso, who happened to be close to the site. Mary offered to step in and see what she could do.
When she arrived, she couldn’t just walk in. She asked one of the nearby employees for permission, and thankfully, they agreed to let her enter.
The workers guided her to the elevator, and when the door opened, Mary could tell right away that the dog was frightened by all the noise and movement.
Wrapped In Her Arms, He Finally Felt At Ease
The dog looked chilled and unsure of what was happening. He didn’t know who Mary was or whether she posed a threat. But she was gentle, and in time, he understood she was there to help.
Once he allowed her to approach, Mary acted fast. The workers kept the elevator door open while she carefully lifted the dog into her arms.
She brought him to her car, making sure he was cozy and calm. For the first time in who knows how long, the pup was being treated with real kindness.
While it was clear that some of the workers had looked out for him by offering food, this was the first time someone had truly gone out of their way to show him care.
Thanks to Mary’s quick response, the pup was now on his way to a nearby California shelter where he would be safe, fed, and seen by a vet.
The rescue team plans to help him regain trust and confidence so he can eventually be adopted into a loving home. After everything he’s been through, he’s more than earned a peaceful and happy life.
