Some people are truly in the right place at the right time, and if Eddy could talk, he’d no doubt say the same!
While he can’t tell his story in words, the way he wags his tail and looks at you with those warm eyes is enough to confirm it.
This little Shih Tzu had been fighting to stay alive, trapped in a drainage ditch, called a bayou in Houston, Texas and clinging desperately to a clump of reeds.
Cold, wet, and exhausted, Eddy held on, shivering, until someone finally noticed him.
Almost Drowning
Life hadn’t been kind to Eddy. No one knows how this stray ended up in the bayou, but what was certain was that he couldn’t get out on his own.
Gripping the reeds as the water moved around him, Eddy seemed to be hoping his ordeal would soon be over. The cold water chilled him to the bone, and he was on the brink of drowning.
Thankfully, a kind woman spotted him and sprang into action.
“A rain storm was coming and the ditch soon filled with fast moving water. Velvin Alvarado saw where he was and rescued the little guy from the water. He was very scared and traumatized,” Erin, Eddy’s first foster, wrote on Facebook.
Without hesitation, Velvin waded in, lifted Eddy from the water, and carried him to safety. Once he was safe, she began posting on social media in search of help.
Her post led the CAMO Rescue team in Houston to step in. Eddy spent his first days recovering with Erin and her family before moving to another foster home where he could continue to heal.
At first, Eddy was nervous and guarded, growling and avoiding people.
The trauma of his ordeal had left him unsure of who to trust. But with time, he realized he was finally safe.
Week by week, his fear eased, and his true personality began to shine. Eddy started to trust his caregivers and slowly embraced the new life he’d been needing all along.
Hoping For A Second Chance
Eddy now has the chance to find the perfect forever home… he just needs the right match.
He’d do best in an adult household where he won’t feel overwhelmed. Social and friendly, he’d make an excellent walking companion and would be thrilled to have people who understand him.
“He has been around older kids and loves them. He is crate trained, and goes outside eagerly,” the CAMO rescue stated.
Eddy has some favorite meals like scrambled eggs and veggie mix top his list, and once he’s full, he enjoys spending time with other dogs or snuggling close to his people.
“He is not fond of kibble, but mixed with scrambled eggs or a meat/rice/vegetable mix he eats well. He was very thin when we got him. He gets along with other dogs. He is ready for a forever home. He just loves to lie close by, and to be loved,” the Texas rescue concluded.
For now, Eddy is undergoing treatment for a urinary tract infection, bacterial issues, and worms. Once he’s fully recovered and neutered, he’ll be ready to meet his future family.
