Anyone who has ever worked at a shelter or has simply gone there to volunteer knows how heartbreaking it is to see lonely dogs in their kennels.
You can just tell right away how sad and lonely they are. And, even when you try to help them by taking them outside for a bit, it feels horrible having to take them back in.
Their good mood suddenly goes away because they know they are back to living their lives in confinement. The only thing keeping them going is the hope that they will be adopted someday.
Every once in a while, a kind person will come and make that happen. However, what we will talk about today is a lot different, and I believe that this story is enough to make anyone’s day better.
A Kind Boy Reads For A Lonely Dog

I don’t think I have ever heard of shelter dog reading programs, but now I want to know more. Apparently, it’s a good way to help kids learn to read while also hanging out with shelter dogs.
This also helps these lonely pups feel more at home, and they get to spend quality time with another human. I have to say, it’s a brilliant idea.
Something like this has the potential to help out a lot more dogs if more people started implementing it in other shelters.

Saving Huey’s Reading Program takes place at Animal Friends of the Valleys in Wildomar, California, where volunteers arrive every Wednesday and read to dogs.
The staff working there usually pair the volunteers and kids with certain dogs who are more compatible with them. That way, it’s fun for everyone.
Romeo’s New Friend

It was an ordinary day when a kid arrived at the shelter and decided to read to a blue and white Pitbull named Romeo. The pup just loved the attention.
The two of them became quick friends, and it was apparent that this friendship was going to continue for many more years.
Shortly after this, the kind boy decided to ask his parents if they could adopt Romeo. Once that was decided, he went with his parents to the shelter in California, and they signed the adoption papers.

When everything was finalized, the boy took Romeo, now named Gomez, into his new home, and this sweet Pitbull now gets to live a normal life with his new best friend.
Not only that, but Gomez now has a new dog sibling. From the first moment, it was clear that the entire family would get along just fine.
It’s wonderful how something so simple could change a dog’s entire life. The shelter workers are really amazing for thinking of such a brilliant idea, and I hope it leads to more dogs being recognized and adopted.
