One afternoon, Jordyn and Derek Slack opened the door of their Tennessee home and were met with an unexpected sight.
A frail Boxer puppy stood on their porch, his ribs protruding beneath a dull coat. His eyes, filled with desperation, seemed to plead for help.
Moved by his condition, Jordyn gently stroked his head and made a silent promise to care for him.
A Chance At Healing Begins

The Slacks welcomed the puppy inside, offering food and clean water. Jordyn quickly contacted the local animal shelter, and within hours, a rescue team arrived to take him to a veterinarian.
After receiving his initial vaccinations, the vet confirmed the puppy, now named Jack, had no microchip.
Jordyn shared Jack’s story and photos across neighborhood Facebook groups, hoping to locate his owner. But no one came forward.
Since Jack appeared clean and free of ticks or fleas, they suspected he hadn’t been on his own for long.
When the shelter asked if the Slacks could foster Jack for the weekend, they didn’t hesitate.
They showered him with love and attention. On his first day, Jack was so exhausted he spent most of it sleeping, slowly regaining strength.

As Jack recovered, he met the Slacks’ daughter, Baylor.
From the moment they touched, a deep connection formed. Jack began following Baylor everywhere, always wanting to be close.

“He has really taken up with our ten-year-old daughter Baylor. They are the best of friends. I think he has found his person. He follows her everywhere she goes… He loves and she really loves him…” Slack said in a TikTok video.
The family grew attached to Jack and started thinking about making him a permanent part of their lives.
Finding The Right Home

Sadly, their French Bulldog couldn’t peacefully coexist with Jack. Whenever the two dogs were in the same room, tension flared.
Though it pained them, the Slacks realized they couldn’t safely keep both pets. Still, they refused to send Jack back to the shelter.
Soon after, a retired couple reached out, expressing interest in adopting him.

They had previously owned a Boxer they adored, and now, with plenty of time and love to give, they were ready to welcome Jack.
“As soon as the lady sat down, he jumped up in her lap and was licking her on the face. It was really sweet and they were so excited,” Jordyn recalled on TikTok.
Jack now lives in Athens, Tennessee, not far from the Slacks. He still sees Baylor regularly.
Though Jordyn and Derek miss him, they know they made the right choice. Jack’s new family cherishes him and will give him the life he always deserved.
