Only Choco knows the hardships he went through before a kind-hearted family found him on the streets of New York and brought him home.
The pup was in a horrible state, and the family hoped they could help him heal.
However, after they cared for him for several days, the family realized that Choco needed medical care, so they took him to AMA Animal Rescue.
Once the rescuers saw Choco’s condition, they felt heartbroken for him. He was malnourished and neglected.
The pup’s whole body was infected, and his paws were so sore and covered in mange that he couldn’t even stand.
Choco Starts His Treatment
The rescue decided to take him in and do whatever it took to help him. They dashed him to the clinic right away.
Choco growled every time someone tried to touch him. It was clear how hurt and distrustful he was.
Although nobody knew Choco’s backstory, the rescuers suspected that he was abused.
Since he was in terrible condition, it was decided that the pup needed to stay at the clinic until he got better.
The 15/10 Foundation, a non-profit organization located in Los Angeles, California, heard about Choco’s story and covered the costs of his stay at the vet.
The pup began taking antibiotics, and the vet team gave him medicated baths every week.
As time passed, Choco started healing.
“As his skin started to heal and the pain began to lessen, it was like watching a different dog emerge. His paws stopped being inflamed, and he could walk, then run, without pain,” Mariya Vlasova, cofounder of AMA Animal Rescue, told The Dodo.
When Choco noticed that he felt better, his mood changed, too. The fear in his eyes began disappearing, and he felt happier.
He started trusting his caregivers and showing them his true disposition.
“With the people he saw regularly and felt safe with, he slowly started to open up. He let them handle him, and we saw the first signs of trust replacing fear. Watching that transformation was truly beautiful,” Vlasova added.
Feeling Truly Loved For The First Time
When the moment arrived for Choco to leave the clinic, he started searching for a forever home where he could continue healing.
One of the clinic receptionists who formed a deep attachment with Choco offered to foster him. She loved the pup and wanted to help him find a forever family.
Choco moved in with a foster family who showered him with affection and showed him what it meant to have a loving home.
The pup settled in perfectly. He met the family’s other dog, and they hit it off.
Choco felt truly happy for the first time in his life.
As time went by, his foster family realized that they couldn’t give him up. They loved Choco immensely, and he became an irreplaceable family member.
His foster family officially adopted him and made his dream come true.
Thanks to the wonderful caregivers at the clinic and his lovely foster family, Choco blossomed into a playful pup who loves belly rubs and enjoys his life to the fullest.
