When a group of truck drivers arrived at a sand pit in Crosby, Texas, to pick up materials, they were heartbroken to discover a friendly dog who had been left behind.
The pup sat quietly, staring off into the distance as if waiting for someone to appear. The drivers guessed she was hoping to see her owners, unaware they had abandoned her.
Hoping To Find Her A Foster

The drivers reached out to Megan, whose family owns the sand pit, to see if she could help. Sadly, abandoned animals often end up at the site, and Megan has stepped in to help many before.
Megan began bringing food every day, while the truck drivers made sure the gentle dog, later named Dutchie, never went hungry.

“We always send our dump truck drivers and operators with bags of dog food to feed the dogs that are down there and I always ask them to take pictures and video,” Megan said.
As soon as Megan received photos and videos, she shared them on Facebook to search for a foster willing to take Dutchie in.
The drivers continued to update her daily and tried to earn the dog’s trust. Dutchie often hid and slept in a pile of tires near the sand pit.
Megan Brings Dutchie The Best News

Lola’s Lucky Day, a rescue group in Houston and Dallas, found a foster for Dutchie.
When Megan heard the news, she felt both excited and relieved. She immediately left work and rushed to the sand pit to bring Dutchie to safety.
“It was a relief. It was like… party. Like, I’m so glad. Whenever I know that there is a solution I never want to leave them down any second longer,“ Megan said.
When Megan arrived, she searched for the pup, who was perfectly hidden in the black tires thanks to her dark fur.
Her heart melted when a tiny head peeked out to see who had come. Dutchie recognized her and came forward, excited to greet her rescuer.
“And then she came out of the tires and she was excited to see me. She was looking for food but she was excited and friendly. She came straight up to me,” Megan said.
Megan slipped a leash around her neck. Dutchie, clearly relieved, rolled over for a belly rub. That night, she stayed at Megan’s house, enjoying the warmth and comfort of a real home.

Megan was enchanted with her. Dutchie spent the night at her home. The doggo was glad to feel the warmth of a real home.
“When I put her in the backyard to run around and it was like grass and I knew that she felt different. She knew that was more of a homelike experience versus where she had been, where it was just fending for herself. She could be herself,“ Megan said.
Settling Into Her Foster Home

The next day, Megan brought Dutchie to her foster parents, Kaitlin and Lauren.
At first, she was hesitant and unsure, though she clearly wanted love and attention.
A visit to the vet revealed she had heartworm, an ankle injury, and hip problems. With the right medication, she began to improve.

Her foster parents gave her time, care, and affection. Slowly, Dutchie learned to relax and trust.
Before long, she was cuddling with Kaitlin and Lauren, her fears gone. The once-abandoned dog had transformed into a happy, confident pup, smiling wide as she looked toward a brighter future.
