Bluu was discovered by a kind-hearted passerby on a quiet country road in Kentucky. The sight of the young Pittie girl sitting alone beside a single bag of food broke the Good Samaritan’s heart.
She had clearly been out there for days—waiting, hoping someone would either come back for her or offer her help. Thankfully, that compassionate stranger contacted a local shelter, and Bluu’s rescue journey began.
Alone and Forgotten
Bluu was quickly taken in by a local animal shelter after being found stranded and alone on the roadside. She received the urgent medical care she needed and was soon deemed ready for a foster home.
To make that happen, the shelter reached out to their longtime partners at Muddy Paws Rescue in New York City.
The NYC-based rescue group regularly teams up with shelters in the South, giving dogs a better shot at adoption while helping the shelters make room for more animals in need.
“We don’t know what circumstances led to Bluu ending up there, but we’re so happy that she forgot all about her past when she made it to us at the end of April,” Muddy Paws Rescue wrote in their blog post.
Upon arrival, Bluu was introduced to her foster dad—David, a first-time foster volunteer. Though a bit nervous at first, David was instantly drawn to her sweet nature.
“He was nervous, but we gave him everything he needed to be comfortable and give Bluu the best transition into the city. Together, Bluu and her foster learned how to care for each other,” the rescue shared on Facebook.
David quickly fell for her, and Bluu, in turn, made herself right at home. The bond they formed helped her put the trauma of Kentucky behind her.
In her foster home, Bluu learned how to climb stairs, snuggle up on the couch, and simply enjoy being a puppy again—something her early life had denied her.
“Bluu was the sweetest, gentlest most loving dog. Her huge human eyes speak to you and from the moment we met she was a dream!,” David told the rescue.
Her spirit had clearly not been broken by her rough start. She began to thrive, revealing a joyful personality that won hearts wherever she went.
From Abandoned To Adored
Eventually, Bluu was ready to find her forever family—one that would never dream of leaving her behind.
Once her story went public, it touched many people, including actor Justin Theroux, who came to meet her at an adoption event—despite heavy rain—because she reminded him of his own pup.
But fate had other plans for Bluu.
A woman named Nafitha, her son, and their dog Oreo (also adopted from Muddy Paws) came to the event at Central Park. As soon as they met Bluu, everything just clicked.
Nafitha later shared that she had seen Bluu’s photo online and instantly felt that she would be the perfect addition to their family—and she was absolutely right.
From that moment on, Bluu settled in beautifully.
“Bluu is a silly little girl but super sweet and protective. My son and her are practically attached at the hip. They always play and fight like siblings,” said Nafitha.
As for Oreo and Bluu? They’re getting along just fine.
“Bluu keeps Oreo on his toes and doesn’t give him rest sometimes! She’s very playful. She has a fascination with birds and tries to run after or fly with them until she jumps and realizes she doesn’t have wings,” Nafitha added.
Despite the hardship she faced, Bluu’s journey is proof that love and second chances can work wonders. Today, she’s a happy, confident pup surrounded by love—and we couldn’t be happier for her.
