Dogs give all their love to their humans and trust them unconditionally.
Sadly, many dog owners break that trust and abandon their pups who feel heartbroken when they suddenly find themselves in shelters.
Some dogs feel scared for the first time and struggle to understand what is going on.
Tangi felt that way after she found herself abandoned. Her owner placed her in a box and left her in front of the Pennsylvania SPCA in Philadelphia on a cold winter day.
Since the box was sealed, Tangi didn’t know where she was. She curled up in the box, feeling frightened
A Heartbreaking Discovery

Fortunately, someone noticed the cardboard box outside the shelter and notified the staff.
The staff rushed to examine the box and realized that there was a note attached to it.
It read, “I have filled out adoption apps, but nothing has happened. Today was my last day, and my back is [against] the wall. She has all her shots. Good dog. Her name is Tangi.”
The staff understood that her owner had struggled deeply before leaving her there.
Once they opened the box, the staff met Tangi, who was frightened and overwhelmed. She didn’t know where her owner was or why he left her.

“When we opened [the box], scared eyes looked up at us,” the SPCA wrote on Facebook. “She was shaking and so stressed that she was hypersalivating, clearly overwhelmed by everything around her. And yet, the moment a hand reached toward her, she leaned in, gentle and searching for comfort despite everything she had been through.”
Tangi did not pull away. She leaned closer to the staff, looking for safety.
Learning To Feel Safe Again
Tangi stayed close to her new shelter friends. She followed them from room to room.
She didn’t like staying alone. When someone stepped away, she cried, as if afraid she would be left again.
Tangi longed to feel safe again.
The staff showered Tangi with affection and reassured her that everything would be alright. Little by little, Tangi began flourishing.
On December 12, 2025, the shelter posted an update, announcing that Tangi was looking for a forever home.
The response was immediate. People were moved by Tangi’s story and her strength.

Just two days later, the shelter shared the happiest news.
“We are over the moon to share that Tangi has been adopted!” they wrote in a Facebook post.
Tangi found a family that promised to love her and take care of her forever. She was excited to start a new chapter in her life.
We couldn’t be happier for you, Tangi. From now on, you will only know happiness.
