A Sick Pittie Whose Skin Almost Turned Into Stone Managed To Heal Completely

We all strive to find purpose in our lives. Without it, it would simply have no meaning and it would not be worth living.

Dogs need it, too, but the purpose of every dog is to find his best friend and family. A man is a dog’s best friend and he simply does not see a point without him.

Today, unfortunately, many dogs are separated from their best friend and are exposed to various burdens in this life to have to deal with alone, from hunger to disease.

So, today’s touching story about a dog that, thanks to its new loving family, has completely recovered from illness will show you how much a hooman means to a dog.

She Couldn’t Remain Indifferent To This Dog’s Condition

Kim Davis McCurry has spent her entire life helping animals, especially dogs. So, one day, she decided to start an organization that would care for dogs until they find a forever home.

That’s how Hearts And Homes, an animal rescue based in Sharpsburg, Georgia, was born. It is this organization that has saved hundreds of dogs in a very short period of time, of which, Kim is the proudest of in her life.

Nevertheless, Kim never hesitated to try to solve a case herself, even if it was the most difficult in the world.

One summer day, she came across a dog that was so sick and neglected that, at first, she couldn’t even recognize what breed it was. Only later did she realize it was a Pit Bull. And, she called him Max.

She knew that this was a case that would require a lot of time in order to be solved successfully. But, she simply could not leave this poor creature on the road just like that, so she decided to immediately adopt him as a foster dog.

Her husband, Josh, agreed and they were all ready to go on the difficult journey of bringing this poor pup his life back.

It Was A Tough Road To Complete Healing

When Kim first saw him, Max was so dirty and infected that his fur had completely turned to stone. That is why they had to take him to the vet immediately, so that the first phase of his recovery could begin.

After 6 long months of nothing but neglect, this poor dog who was covered in mange, with swollen and infected legs, finally received proper medical care from Dr. Cristy and the staff at Sharpsburg Animal Hospital.

This sweet boy finally got a second chance at life, but that was just the beginning of his recovery. He was still broken inside and that was actually the most difficult challenge facing Kim and Josh.

“For the first few weeks, all Max wanted to do was sleep,” Kim said for The Dodo.

He was literally tired of life and everything he had been through, and for a long period of time, he didn’t want anyone to approach him at all. Kim and her husband understood him completely, so they didn’t want to pressure him, but instead, give him as much time as he needed to heal his inner wounds.

After a long time, Max began to open up a bit and Kim realized that he had reached his next stage of recovery.

Since they noticed that he did not know basic dog behavior at all, they worked with him every day. What helped them a lot in this were their 4 dogs who completely accepted Max, and also helped him on his way to a new life.

Little by little, with the help of his foster parents as well as dog brothers and sisters, he learned how to be a real dog. And, he also slowly began to regain his lost trust in people, which is ultimately the most important thing for a dog.

The Best Birthday Gift

“I remember one night, he just decided he would come up and get on the couch,” said Kim “He came right beside me and fell asleep under a blanket.”

This was actually the biggest turning point for this dog that not so long ago was on the verge of life and death.

It was the moment that showed that Max had finally regained full trust in people, and therefore, truly started his new life.

Max had been with the McCurry family in Sharpsburg for half a year already, fully recovered inside and out. Since he was still a foster dog, he needed only one more thing to complete this beautiful story… a forever home.

With Max’s fate already decided that day, Kim couldn’t have chosen a better gift for Josh’s birthday. On that special day, Max got his forever home. He stayed with the family with whom he grew out of all his troubles and problems, and found a new, happy life.

This touching story once again shows that to a dog, a human is the meaning of life, and that just a little love and affection can do a miracle and completely reverse even the worst situations in his life.
