It is never fair to understand a situation only by what it looks like from the outside, and that is especially true when a dog owner may be going through something difficult. If Rukey had a voice, she would probably say the same thing, even after everything she went through.
Found abandoned in a Michigan parking lot, this sweet girl had once known what it felt like to be loved. But for reasons no one fully understood, she was left there with a heartbreaking note fastened to her collar.
Thankfully, kind strangers noticed Rukey before she had to face the world alone for long, and they made sure she was brought somewhere safe.
The Heartbreaking Message
Rukey’s ordeal began in a Kent County, Michigan, parking lot, where she was found standing alone and bewildered, having suddenly lost everything familiar to her. A group of compassionate passersby quickly took her to the Kent County Animal Shelter.
Attached to her collar was a note that tugged at the heartstrings of everyone who read it.
“A kind group of people brought her to our Animal Shelter, with a note tied to her collar that read: -My name is Rukey. Please help me, take me home,” the Michigan shelter shared in a Facebook post.
The shelter immediately welcomed Rukey with warmth and care. In their post, they expressed understanding and compassion for the difficult circumstances Rukey’s family must have been facing.
“We can only imagine how difficult this choice was for you, and we sincerely hope you find brighter days ahead,” they wrote.
Motivated by Rukey’s story, the shelter reminded families in need of their various support programs, aimed at assisting those going through hard times.
These services include support for families struggling with pet food, veterinary care, and even help for those facing housing instability.
“If you’re struggling to feed yourself or your pet, please reach out. We can assist with food, connect you to social services, and help facilitate other resources as needed,” KCAS explained.
The note tied to Rukey’s collar was a testament to the love her family still had for her, despite not being able to provide her with a stable home anymore.
Rukey Captures Hearts Everywhere
Within days of arriving at the shelter, Rukey had already captured the hearts of the staff and volunteers. Her affectionate and gentle nature made her an ideal candidate for adoption.
“Her gentle personality has already won our hearts, and we will ensure she is cared for and finds a wonderful, loving family,” the shelter wrote.
For now, Rukey is staying with her caregivers, adjusting to her new, safe environment, where she is learning what it means to be cared for. The shelter is optimistic that the right family will come along soon, one that will give her the life she truly deserves.
The good news is that Rukey’s sweet temperament has already led to several adoption applications, which means finding her forever home is now a much easier task.
