California Siblings Covered In Ticks Stay Side By Side Until Rescuers Reach Them

California Siblings Covered In Ticks Stay Side By Side Until Rescuers Reach Them

Few things hurt more than seeing dogs left behind with no choice but to fend for themselves. Without food, shelter, or anyone looking out for them, their lives can quickly sink into truly heartbreaking conditions.

For three young dogs in Southern California, that was exactly what happened near Magic Johnson Park in Los Angeles. They were found curled together on the sidewalk, unwilling to move from the place where their family had driven off and vanished from their lives.

Their chances seemed painfully uncertain, until one phone call made its way to a rescue team that was ready to fight for a different ending.

Still Waiting Where They Were Left Behind

Local residents spotted the trio, a female pup and her two brothers, pressed tightly together on the pavement. Neighbors shared that the dogs had been dumped from a car, pushed out, and left behind as the vehicle sped away.

For hours, the dogs didn’t move. They remained in the same place, staring down the road as if hoping the car would return. But no one came back.

As the heat intensified, they crawled beneath a nearby car for shade.

Even then, they stayed close, curled around each other as if shielding one another from the world.

Rescuers From Logan’s Legacy Answer The Call

Concerned neighbors contacted Suzette Hall, of Logan’s Legacy, a rescue group based in Irvine, California. Unable to reach the site herself, Hall sent two team members to investigate.

The rescuers found the dogs exactly as described. Their fur was tangled and dirty, and their bodies were covered in ticks. It was clear they were in urgent need of care.

“Dumped at a park together. Covered in ticks, matted so bad they couldn’t even poop, and tons of creepy-crawling ticks. They stayed right where they were left, and stuck together,” Suzette wrote on her Facebook page.

Typically, Hall’s team uses humane traps to safely collect strays. But this time, it wasn’t necessary. The female pup walked straight to the rescuers when offered food, and her brothers followed closely behind.

“These sweet babies will never, ever have to wait again. They are rescued,” Hall said.

Even inside the rescue van, the three refused to separate. They remained side by side the entire ride to a volunteer’s home.

Healing Begins, But Their Bond Remains Unbroken

At the volunteer’s house, Arturo Flores spent two hours carefully shaving away the mats and removing the ticks that clung to their skin. It was slow, delicate work, but soon the dogs were clean and comfortable.

They were given names Damien, Polly, and Barkley, and placed into foster care.

Hall noted that what made this trio so special was their unwavering connection. Even after being rescued, they refused to leave each other’s side, a rare and powerful bond among dogs.

She hopes that when the time comes, they’ll be adopted together into a single loving home.

Until then, Damien, Polly, and Barkley will continue doing what they’ve always done: sticking close, protecting one another, and facing the world as a team.
