Dog Waiting Beside A Washington Road Stares At A Deputy Like She Needs Him To Follow

What began as a quiet patrol through rural northwestern Washington quickly became something Stevens County Sheriff’s Deputy Wright could not ignore.

He was driving through the area when he noticed a dog sitting by the road. She was watching him with a worried look, almost as if she needed him to understand something without being able to say it.

Wright sensed that something was wrong.

He stopped his patrol car and walked toward her, thinking she might simply be lost. His plan was to get her safely into the vehicle and help her find her way home.

But the dog refused to move.

At that moment, Wright did not yet know that her stubbornness was pointing him toward a much bigger problem.

The Dog Who Wanted To Be Followed

Believing her owner must be nearby, Wright began searching the surrounding forest. After finding no one, he returned to the road, where the dog was still waiting, eyes filled with worry.

When he tried once more to move her away from the area, the pup suddenly reacted.

“… [She] took off up a slightly travelled, unmarked roadway,” the sheriff’s office later wrote in a Facebook post.

Trusting his instincts, Wright decided to follow. The dog led him down a narrow, secluded path that ended at a small summer cabin hidden among the trees.

As the deputy scanned the area, he suddenly heard a faint voice calling for help. Turning toward the sound, he discovered an elderly man lying on the ground near the cabin.

The man was Gita’s 84-year-old owner. He had fallen, injured himself, and was unable to stand or move.

To make matters worse, the man suffered from serious health conditions and relied on daily medication. He had been stranded there for hours, unable to reach anyone.

Gita Becomes A Hero

If not for Gita’s loyalty and quick thinking, her owner might never have been found in time.

“He had laid there for hours and may have had serious consequences if he had not been found,” the sheriff’s office stated.

The story of Gita’s courage spread quickly across social media, touching hearts everywhere. Her actions showed, once again, the extraordinary devotion dogs have for their humans.

The sheriff’s office credited the 13-year-old pup with saving her best friend’s life that day.

I truly hope Gita’s owner makes a full recovery and that this brave dog continues to enjoy many more happy years by his side.

Thanks to Deputy Wright for trusting his instincts, and to Gita, the faithful hero who refused to give up until help arrived.
