California Rescuer Crawls Into A Tight Parking Garage Space For A Dog Crying In Fear

Suzette Hall has been part of more heartbreaking rescues than most people could imagine during her years of animal advocacy.

As a devoted rescuer in California, she has met countless dogs carrying the weight of neglect, fear, and uncertainty, and each one has stayed with her in its own way.

Even when the situation is especially difficult, Hall’s compassion never seems to waver. She knows there is almost nothing more moving than watching a frightened, forgotten animal slowly soften once it realizes it is finally safe.

That belief is exactly why she responded when someone called about a stray dog who was said to be hiding under a broken-down car at an apartment complex.

But when Hall arrived, the scene in front of her was even more upsetting than she had expected.

A Frightening Discovery

A concerned neighbor reached out to Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy 29 in Irvine, California, after spotting a stray dog wandering the property for several days.

The neighbor mentioned that the pup had been taking shelter under a broken-down car in the parking garage. Hall got into her van and drove to the location.

When she arrived, however, the dog was nowhere to be seen. Certain he was still close by, Hall decided to look around.

After a few minutes of searching, she noticed something moving in the bushes near a long driveway. As she moved closer, her heart sank when she realized it was the same dog, trembling and whimpering in fear.

“He was literally in there crying,” Hall wrote on Facebook.

She quickly set up a humane trap filled with tasty treats, hoping hunger would draw him out. But the frightened pup wouldn’t budge. He was too scared to leave his hiding place. Realizing she needed to try something else, Hall changed her plan.

A Risky Rescue

She returned to her van to grab her bite gloves and a slip lead, then slowly crawled into the tight space where the dog was hiding.

Speaking softly, she reassured him as she reached out with gentle pats. After gaining a bit of his trust, she slipped the lead around his neck and carefully pulled him to safety.

“It was such a tight space. Thank goodness I grabbed my bite gloves and a slip lead from my van,” Hall explained.

The pup struggled at first, still terrified, but Hall held on. She knew this was his one chance at survival, and she refused to give up.

Finally Safe

Once she got him out, Hall secured the dog in a crate and rushed him to a nearby veterinary clinic.

There, she received devastating news. The vet found that he was severely underweight, his gums were pale, and his body was covered in puncture wounds.

“My vet called and said ‘I’m so glad you got him here when you did, he has puncture wounds, his gums are white and he’s skin and bones,’” Hall shared on Facebook.

Without her quick response, the little dog likely wouldn’t have survived much longer. Thanks to Hall’s compassion and persistence, he finally had a chance to heal.

As he rested in his crate, safe for the first time in a long while, Hall knew she had saved another life. Once his body heals and his spirit recovers, he will be ready to find the loving home
