Eddy’s rescue came down to one person noticing him before the water took the moment away.
The tiny Shih Tzu could not explain what had happened, but his body said enough. He was soaked, shaking, exhausted, and trapped in a Texas bayou with only a patch of reeds to hold onto.
His strength was fading as the drainage ditch filled around him.
Then a woman saw him and made the choice he needed most. She moved fast, stepped into danger, lifted the frightened little dog out of the rising water, and carried him toward safety.
A Rescue Just In Time

Eddy’s life had clearly been difficult. No one knows how he ended up in the bayou, but one thing was certain: he couldn’t escape on his own.
Grasping the reeds as water surged around him, he seemed to be waiting for the end. The cold had seeped into his bones, and he was dangerously close to drowning.
Then, a woman passing by noticed him and acted immediately.

“A rain storm was coming and the ditch soon filled with fast moving water. Velvin Alvarado saw where he was and rescued the little guy from the water. He was very scared and traumatized,” Erin, Eddy’s first foster, wrote on Facebook.
Without a second thought, Velvin stepped into the water, lifted the frightened dog into her arms, and carried him to safety.
Once Eddy was out of danger, she turned to social media to ask for help.

Her post reached CAMO Rescue, who quickly responded. Eddy spent his first few days recovering with Erin and her family before transitioning to another foster home where he could continue healing.
Initially, Eddy was wary and defensive. He growled and avoided contact, unsure of who he could trust.
The trauma he had endured left him guarded. But slowly, he began to understand he was finally safe.

As the weeks passed, Eddy’s fear began to fade. He started to open up, revealing a sweet and gentle personality that had been hidden beneath layers of fear.
With patience and care, he began to embrace the life he had always deserved.
Searching For A Place To Call Home

Now, Eddy is ready to find a permanent home, he just needs the right fit.
He would thrive in a calm, adult household where he won’t feel overwhelmed. Friendly and sociable, he would make a wonderful walking partner and would love to be with people who understand his journey.
“He has been around older kids and loves them. He is crate trained, and goes outside eagerly,” the CAMO rescue stated.

Eddy has a few favorite meals, scrambled eggs and vegetable mix are at the top of his list. Once he’s had his fill, he enjoys relaxing with other dogs or curling up beside his humans.
“He is not fond of kibble, but mixed with scrambled eggs or a meat/rice/vegetable mix he eats well. He was very thin when we got him. He gets along with other dogs. He is ready for a forever home. He just loves to lie close by, and to be loved,” the Texas rescue concluded.
At the moment, Eddy is receiving treatment for a urinary tract infection, bacterial issues, and worms. Once he’s fully recovered and neutered, he’ll be ready to meet the family who will give him the love and security he’s always needed.
Here’s hoping this resilient little dog finds the peaceful, affectionate life he’s waited so long to have.
