Watching any dog go through shelter life is hard enough, but witnessing the moment they are given up makes it hit on a whole different level.
Macaroni, a one-year-old Pug mix, was forced into that heartbreak when her family brought her to a shelter in Los Angeles. The instant she understood this was not just a visit but their last goodbye, everything around her seemed to fall apart.
A video capturing Macaroni’s surrender spread quickly online and touched thousands of people, many of whom began hoping someone would step forward and give her the fresh start she deserved.
The Agony Of Saying Goodbye
Volunteers from The HIT Living Foundation in Los Angeles saw Macaroni being held by her family at the shelter. She was trembling uncontrollably, frozen with fear and confusion.
The team had initially come to rescue another dog and her puppies but stepped in immediately when they saw what was happening.
They quickly offered to take Macaroni, aware that the crowded shelter environment would be overwhelming for her.
During intake, they learned that her family was surrendering her due to their daughter’s allergies.
Even after moving into the Foundation’s care, Macaroni remained in shock, unsure of what to expect next. The grief of losing her family was clear, and volunteers wiped away tears as she entered a completely new chapter surrounded by strangers.
“Going to the shelter and seeing the endless dogs is heart-breaking in itself, but witnessing the moments where a dog realizes they are being left behind is beyond,” the organization shared in the video.
A New Beginning For Macaroni
Given all she had been through, Macaroni was initially shy and withdrawn. New faces and new dogs made her uneasy, and she took some time to feel comfortable.
With the patient support of her fosters, Angela and Natacha, she began to settle in. She quickly formed bonds with them and their dogs, grateful for the safe space she had found.
“She can be timid at first but once she has a couple of days to adjust to her new environment, she does really well. She is good with kids, dogs, and also cats,” Angela shared on Instagram.
In just a few weeks, Macaroni’s personality blossomed. She started cuddling with her new companions and greeted each day with joy.
Her rescuers say she loves running around the yard and curling up on the couch. With her gentle spirit and sweet demeanor, Macaroni wins the hearts of everyone she meets.
She gets along well with other pets, especially children. Her loving nature led her to a family who immediately wanted to make her a permanent part of their home.
In a TikTok update, The HIT Living Foundation shared the heartwarming news: Macaroni had found her forever family and was in the process of adoption.
“She is now living with a foster family who are in the process of adopting her. We’re so glad we came across you and got to give you the life you deserve,” the organization shared in the video.
After all she has been through, Macaroni is finally getting the chance to live the life she always deserved, with a family who will love her forever.
