Connecticut Kittens Vanish Into A Narrow Space Beneath A Porch And Rescuers Face A Delicate Task

When a family in Connecticut started hearing faint little cries near their home, they knew right away that something was not right. Curious and worried, they followed the sound across their yard to figure out where it was coming from.

That trail brought them to the concrete porch, where they found a mother cat with her two tiny kittens. But it did not take long to realize those two weren’t the ones making all the noise.

Set on getting to the bottom of it, the family kept searching.

Strange Cries From Beneath

The family soon noticed a narrow gap between the concrete steps and the house. The space was just wide enough for a small kitten to slip through. They paused and listened carefully. The crying returned, unmistakably coming from deep inside the opening.

Realizing the situation required help, the family reached out to the Danbury Fire Department (DFD).

“Tonight, a family discovered two small kittens who had fallen between a masonry wall and some pre-cast concrete stairs. The two kittens had fallen just far enough down where they couldn’t be reached and pulled out, and their heads were stuck tight between the concrete,” the DFD wrote in a Facebook post.

Initially, the rescue team tried to reach the kittens from above. However, this approach was unsuccessful, and a new strategy was needed.

The firefighters then came up with an innovative plan using rescue airbags.

Using Rescue Airbags To Free The Kittens

The DFD explained, “Utilizing rescue airbags, just enough force was exerted to add about a quarter inch of space, allowing the kittens to fall into the void below the stairs.”

The gentle pressure created just enough room for the kittens to slip free and fall safely without injury.

At the same time, firefighters positioned themselves on the opposite side to help retrieve the kittens.

“[The] firefighters removed two rocks in an adjoining wall, and then they were able to reach in with a snare and capture both kittens,” the DFD said.

After a careful and tense effort, both kittens were finally rescued.

Cheers erupted from neighbors and family members, and the mama cat seemed visibly relieved.

“The two rogue kittens were reunited with their mom and siblings, and the neighborhood was relieved that the kittens were alright,” the fire department added.

Safe And Sound Again

After their harrowing ordeal, the adventurous kittens were happily reunited with their family, safely nestled in their warm home.

Let’s hope this experience encourages them to choose
