Indiana Pup Abandoned At Home Refuses To Leave The Porch Where She Was Left

Rain had always believed her family loved her, and in her mind, there was no chance they would ever leave her behind. Then, in one devastating instant, everything changed.

What began like any normal day soon turned into the hardest one she had ever faced. Her family packed up their things, left their Indiana home, and never returned, abandoning Rain as if she did not matter at all.

At first, she could not make herself accept it. She held tightly to the idea that they had only gone out for a little while and would be back any moment.

But as one day turned into the next, that small thread of hope slowly gave way to heartbreak. Rain remained there by herself, trying to understand how the people she loved most could leave her behind so easily.

Left Alone Without Warning

A woman named Tracy noticed Rain outside the empty house, her posture anxious and uncertain. The sight pierced her heart.

She approached the frightened dog, offered her food, and snapped a photo. Then she shared it on Facebook, praying someone would come forward to help Rain.

That someone turned out to be Taylor Bullock, the founder of Happy Tails Animal Rescue in Terre Haute, Indiana.

Bullock was shaken by the post. She couldn’t get Rain out of her mind. She kept refreshing the page, hoping to see that someone had already stepped in.

When no updates appeared, Bullock decided she had to go herself.

She drove straight to the house and found Rain still sitting on the porch, waiting faithfully for the family who had left her behind.

The sight broke Bullock’s heart.

Rain was dirty, her ears bore the marks of frostbite, and her skin was covered in painful sores.

As Bullock drew closer, Rain’s face brightened. Relief washed over her as she realized someone had finally come.

Yet she hesitated to leave, circling back to the front door again and again, hoping someone would open it for her.

Bullock wasn’t sure how long Rain had been living like this. After speaking with neighbors, she learned the dog had been seen lingering near the house for several days.

Her family had moved out nearly a month earlier.

As if she finally felt safe, Rain curled up in Bullock’s lap. Bullock held her close, offering the comfort and security Rain had been longing for.

A Fresh Start For Rain

While cradling Rain, Bullock began searching for a foster who could provide her with a safe place to recover.

That’s when Candice, a compassionate foster mom, stepped forward.

Bullock brought Rain home, gave her a soothing bath, and treated her for parasites. At last, Rain was in caring hands.

That evening, a storm rolled through. The loud noises unsettled Rain, and she refused to sleep in her crate. Instead, she nestled beside Bullock on the couch, finally feeling protected.

A scan revealed she had no microchip. Vets estimated her age to be between two and three years old.

The following morning, Rain moved into her foster home, where several friendly dogs welcomed her warmly into their pack.

Candice quickly grew attached to Rain’s gentle spirit and calm presence. Her sweetness was undeniable.

“She is house trained and doesn’t seem to mind kitty cats. She is the best girl. Whoever adopts her will be getting one amazing baby,” Candice wrote on Facebook.

Now Rain waits once more, but this time it is different. She is waiting for a family who will cherish her forever and never let her down.

And that family is out there, ready to find her.
